I would expect that they would have something in the rules to cater for last ditch avoidance of that kind of situation. Well, I hope so anyhow :)

I'd expect this to be the case as well; in 3E you get a DC 15 reflex save to catch yourself if you fall off of something, IIRC. I'd be surprised if there isn't some sort of equivalent "last ditch" sort of thing. All we're seeing, for the most part are the PC's and monsters - and of those only the parts that are not the same across the board (like the healing surges for NPC's) so we probably will have to wait a while to see just what that last piece of the puzzle is.
