To be fair, 4E is mentioned in the article:

Epic Destinies in 4th Edition
As a part of the core 4th Edition rules, epic destinies are an iconic facet of epic play. The epic tier of play is built to have an endpoint, unlike 3rd Edition's epic levels. Usually, this means taking on an immense threat to the world, such as Orcus, or perhaps even an evil deity.

See if you can guess which of the epic destinies in this article is also featured in the 4th Edition Player's Handbook!

Something someone on Gleemax noticed:

Every epic destiny presented has a brand new piece of art.

Would they have created all these arts just for a 4e-in-3.5 Dragon article if they weren't already created for 4e.

(Also it was noted that all the pics are in the 4e folder but that might not mean anything)

In before the move!

They've done plenty of original art for the previous 3.5 articles in Dungeon and Dragon, so I wouldn't read anything into that.

I think the "meat" of this article for many will be the speculation about which of these EDs will be in 4th edition, and what we can intuit about 4e based on these EDs. For example, the levels that characters get new abilities definitely map to when we would expect the 4e ED powers to be granted. We have to assume that some of these abilities are powers in disguise.

But which ones???

I demand baseless speculation!!!

But the art doesn't have to be for those epic destinies, it could be for other sections of the book. Wouldn't be the first time WOTC has used art in multiple ways.

After reading a number of them, it could very well be a 3.5 conversion to the existing 4E epic destinies for you to finish off your current campaigns with. It seems consistent with what little we know about epic destinies already, and gives DMs something new to finish off their existing 3.5 campaigns with.
