4e Equipment list and nostalgia

Ok, who has EVER used a 10' pole with any sort of reasonable effect? No DM I've seen has ever let a trap go off due to some unwieldy piece of wood...

We have. If you have realistic traps that you, the DM, actually understand the workings of (as was common in the olden days), rather than just having some mechanics for, it's a perfectly reasonable investigative tool.

I remember some lengthy and hilarious discussions on the "physics of evil" and whether wood "conducted evil" and/or if metal did when a 10' pole was used to prod a particularly cursed artifact.

Also, dude, if you're seriously trying to say that 10' poles aren't a part of D&D, you can take your coat with it's giant "3E" on the back and go home.

2 months ago, playing 1E Tomb of Horrors. Kept the players from jumping into the sphere of annihilation themselves. See link.
