I was just bringing it up as a side-note to the aforementioned conversation, not to potentially derail the thread on judging the value of such a decision.

I like the emphasis on elements.

It adds some more flavor and a better way of conceiving of factionalization of different monsters types that go beyond alignment. I saw the strong elemental themes with giants even back in 2e, and I'm glad they're extending that.
 

Something else to keep in mind.

The Elemental Maelstrom/Tempest/whathaveyou, needs to be populated, with regards to monsters. The monsters they're going to drop there are going to be hefty powerful. Because it's roughly in the Paragon/Epic level, we're going to see some monsters that belong there - and they should be tied to the elements, if they're going to live in the Elemental chaos.
