4e Hits Half Price Books

For the record I did see 3e and 3.5 books hit Half priced books in about the same time. Same with nWod books like Vampire and Mage. I've even found some Savage Worlds, Star Wars Saga, and other RPG lines in that same time period.

Yep. Me, too. This isn't unusual at all. Currently the bad economy, massive layoffs, and shrinking paychecks may have something to do with it. That said, even in good economic times, a lot of people buy Hot Newness of many different varieties in order to check it out thoroughly and quickly determine that it isn't for them.

Heck, this pretty much defines my own relationship with RPGs for the better part of a decade. I've purchased tons of stuff only to read it once and offload it a month later (FWIW, I did this with both the D&D 4e PHB and the D&D 3e core books).

Shouldn't second-hand copies of 4e books be selling at 20% of the original price?

Usually the new looking ones are from people who received them as (holiday or b-day) gifts that never would have bought them for themself. 1/2Price books is a great place to shop for virtually new stuff in early January. Of course, the economy and layoffs has a lot to do with some of the used materials showing up but let's not so easily dismiss how many former gamers might simply be jonsing for a fix.
