D&D 4E 4e is BROKEN if you ignore a major rule

Is a Giantslayer's (Martial Power p62) powers Fighter powers or Ranger powers?
Prerequisite: Fighter or Ranger

They are neither. They are Giantslayer powers.

Indeed. A cleric's Healing Lore doesn't apply to Paragon Path powers either, for those who were wondering.

The PC could spend the spell plus three orbs to get any monster - and probably many monsters - stunned for four rounds. That's one level 20 power and three minor actions [all dailys, yes], with essentially no chance of failure; too cheap, too cheap. Orcus shouldn't be stunned for four rounds so easily... Imagine how much damage a party could do to him in four rounds... Imagine what a normal level 20 daily power does, and some three Daily uses of magic items... No, the combo is still too powerful, even if it isn't outright "broken".

We probably hashed through this a bunch during 4e's launch with Blade Cascade, but why is a solo fight with Orcus the benchmark on if something breaks the game? The powers/magic items/combat system is set-up to support the D&D game as a whole. It seems like you are just taking bits out of context with the intent of going, "LOOK HOW BROKEN 4E IS!!!!! OMGWTFBBQ!"

I mean, your party should be trudging through Orcus's realm of the undead. They'll AT THE VERY LEAST multiple encounters against tough fights before they even get within sight of Orcus. Yet, they get to take an extended rest, and then pop up for a one on one fight with the demon prince of the undead... ok...

The idea that this is some test of "epic level play" is kinda silly, since you have your side stacked up with everything for one fight against one enemy. It's like putting a first level party up against Irontooth solo vs a first level party against the entire Iroontooth encounter from Keep on the Shadowfell. He's easy enough to take down in a five on one fight, but the encounter is really tough otherwise.

I agree completely, but was just curious about which part of the thread had gotten your dander up. Perhaps another topic about "what's a good guideline for brokenness" is in order?

Well, if you read through the entire thread, you'll realize the original poster had a little help by a mod in writing that title...

I did and I assumed the addition was "if you ignore a major rule" but regardless of whether the OP or the mod wrote the title, it's still a candidate for the "OBVIOUS" tag. ;)

I didn't know my dander was up. I'll have to have it checked. ;)

However, the thing that interested me is the "solo Orcus" fight that seems to be the benchmark of a "OMGWTFBBQ OVERPOWERED! ERRATA NERF NOW!" power.

I think a better guideline for brokenness needs to be used, but I'd shudder to think what would come if the subject is just tossed out for debate.
