D&D 4E 4e is Cool :)

Personally, I'm a lover of all editions of RPG table-top games that I've played. Started out in 2E to 3.x and now 4E. Each has their pros and cons as have been thoroughly discussed, but to me role playing is role playing regardless of edition and it's the spirit of the game that brings us together to have fun and socialize with other like-minded gamers which is what makes it so great. Thanks for the positive thread and happy gaming!

Like many older gamers, I've played and DMd every edition from 1 to 4e. When I was younger, I could devote much more time to learning all the spells, and rules and charts etc., but now there is less time to spare. This fact alone makes 4e a better game for me and the old friends I play with. DMing 4e is 100% easier than past editions, and playing is easier, yet still enjoyable.

When my friends and I changed from hardcore teen players, who had nothing better to do than play the game, to casual, once a month or so players, it was impossible to keep in character and remember all of the spells that a wizard, cleric, or other spell caster could use. Now, we can play and then pick up the game in one, two or even 3 months and still be able to run characters effectively.

I actually remember at one point how playing higher level characters in our infrequent games gave me anxiety attacks - Try to infrequently play a Druid 12/Wizard 12 from any earlier edition and you'll panic too.

I've also found that because the powers in 4e are much easier to use/remember, the players I play with spend more time roleplaying and getting into the character rather than trying to optimize spell effects. In addition, combat tactics are also more interesting in 4e.

I guess I really like 4e. There..I said it. All the hardcore old-timers can crucify me now.

Cheers.

I'm sure they would like to, but they are too busy crucifying each other.

I also like the powers in 4E. Simple and clear (for the most part) and they really have little potential for abuse unlike a good majority of spells in 3.x

I also like the combat in 4E. I find it hard to go back to 3.5 combat now, where most melee people are simply potted plants chopping at each other.
