4e lovefest?

So, to put it in simple terms, your complaint is that people don't agree with you? Are you suggesting we should establish rules on opinions of editions of D&D? How much are people allowed to like each edition on, say, a scale of 1-10? What expressions of opinion should require action by a moderator? Anyone who likes 2E more than 6/10? Anyone who likes 4E more than 7/10? Anyone who likes cheeseburgers less than 4/10?

What action are you suggesting when posting in Meta about this problem? Which anti-4E measures would you like us to take?

I dunno -- does love for one require you to HATE the other?

One wouldn't think so, no.

But the tone of the marketing, and then the fans who buy into it, does sort of set the tone for the rhetoric.

One could go the extra mile and make it '4ever' rather than just '4e.' It's just punnier this way.

I have a deep and abiding love for 1e, 3e, and 3.5e - and I wouldn't kick 2e out of bed, either. I expect to have an equally great time with 4e as well. I'm excited for its impending arrival. That doesn't temper my joy of 3.5e one bit. I don't get it, Mike; why are you complaining that many people are happy and excited about the hobby they love?

That being said, I'm totally on board with booting people who like cheeseburgers less than 4/10. Commies.

To be fair, I did move the thread from the General Forum to Meta, because it was more about the tone of ENWorld, than about D&D itself.

Anyone else thinking ENworld is turning into a 4e love fest? Should we all invite Scott Rouse and Bill Slavicsek over for dinner and sing praises on them for saving us from the horrible 3.5 and preventing D&D from dying a horrible death? Then get "a heart with 4e inside of it tattooed on our arms.

Why do you think it is becoming a lovefest, exactly? Sure, within the 4e forum there is a lot of love, as would be expected, but there is also a healthy amount of skepticism as well. In other forums I haven't noticed a lot of 4e love specifically.

Is your opinion being formed by the front page news? The site is now titled "EN World - Morrus' 4th Edition D&D (emphasis mine) / d20 News and Reviews Site." Yes, the front page is dominated by 4e news, but I would say that is because there is a lot of 4e news, and a reduction of RPG news from other publishers since many of them have not been investing as much into 3.x products as they wait for 4e and the GSL to be released to them so they can decide how they are going to proceed.

On the front page recently I have seen information on Pathfinder, the new True 20 CoC, a new license from Dundjinni, a new product from The Le Games that is non-system specific etc.

Yep 4e dominates, but that only makes sense. They put up interviews getting clarification right from the source. Yes, WotC can use it as a marketing mouthpiece, but the alternative is to say nothing and allow tons of rampant speculation. Any news outlet worth their salt will try and get an interview rather than do nothing.

I can't say for certain, but I'm sure if someone were to somehow release some form of "anti-4e" information that was newsworthy rather than just an opinion; something like a former 4e employee posting what seems to be legitimate information about how WotC will require all subscriber to D&D Insider to burn their earlier edition books as part of the user agreement, I would safely assume it would be posted on the news page. I also assume somebody would try and get some kind of verification or denial of the information from WotC. That's what gathering news is all about.
