[4e] New Campaign Discussion Thread

I'm afraid the time I will probably have to repost (and edit) the information won't be until this weekend. I hope that's not too big an issue for you, Sparky.

Level 6: Jack of all TradesScholar, Deva Wizard
Listen to the crowd...it's just you and me out here, and only one of us can die. Are you sure you don't want to work this out peacefully?

Long ago having chosen to go by a title instead of a name, the deva that calls himself the Scholar prefers not to fight at all, unless it can't be avoided. That's why, when an old enemy of his framed him for crimes he didn't commit, he was assigned to the most deliciously ironic punishment there could be...a life fighting others for the amusement of onlookers.

However, the Scholar...intelligent and resourceful, with countless lives of experience to guide him...has other plans...

[sblock=Background]He's gone by many names over the long, many years, and after forgetting more than he ever knew he decided to adopt a name that was a word; a word that captured his essence. From that point on, he called himself The Scholar. A seeker of knowledge and truth, dedicated to their spreading.

Predictably for a being of high ideals and unflinching, uncompromising morals, the Scholar has made many enemies in the halls of power. During a crisis between Bael Turath and Arkhosia, the Scholar averted war by revealing information humiliating to one of the Arkhosian generals; proving he was acting on his own vendetta rather than at the behest of the government. It wasn't until his next lifetime than the general was ready to strike him back.

After the Scholar's 'death' the general got to work, rebuilding his honor, forming new alliances and gaining favor. With divinations, he learned when his foe would return to the world. It took time, and resources, to track the Scholar's new incarnation down, but it was well spent in the eyes of the general.

The new Scholar found himself in the holding pen of an arena as a prisoner of war, based on an Arkhosian military tribunal's declaration that he was a spy for Bael Turath. A tribunal headed by none other than his old friend.

Now he must fight to survive as he attempts to do what few have ever done; escape.[/sblock]

[sblock=Levels]
Level 1 - "Welcome Back, Scholar." The Scholar reincarnates and collects some of his things left behind from a prior age.
Level 2 – "Walk The Circle Widdershins." The Scholar outwits a surly gang of opportunistic treasure hunters who try to force him to lead them to ill-gotten loot.
Level 3 – "Mondragon's Metal Men." The Scholar aids a small community that is being conquered by a megalomanic mechinist and his mountain of metal men!
Level 4 – "Not Such A Ball After All." The Scholar attends the anniversary ball of a country lord, and winds up having to clear his name of murder!
Level 5 – "Run, Scholar! Run!" Having discerned the true plot against him, the Scholar must flee General Gadrard's bounty hunters!
Level 6 – "Friends, Old and New." The Scholar is captured and brought before General Gadrard who uses his military authority to condemn the Scholar to fight in the Arena until he is dead. However in the Arena he meets new friends and allies.[/sblock]
[sblock=Description]
The Scholar is a tall, slim male deva with sky-blue tinted skin and gently glowing cyan eyes. His arms and legs are a little long, proportionally, giving him a somewhat gangly look. Most often he has an expression of intense interest in whatever he's doing, or a bright, cheerful grin. His hair is short, impeccably groomed, and is a very light shade of blue, almost white or silver. Both skin and hair have a pattern of slightly darker shade running over them.

His tastes in clothes are somehow both elegant and eccentric, typically wearing a pair of fitted brown pants and snug white or off-white tunic-style shirt over which he layers the complicated and dangerous looking Shockweave Vest...a leather vest covered in wires and sockets that softly buzzes when it's been activated. Over everything is his splendidly multicolored Deep-Pocket Cloak; a patchwork quilt of a garment, with each square of cloth being a different vibrant hue.[/sblock]

[sblock=On Things Gladiatorial]The Scholar, while no pacifist, is at loathe to kill beings who do not willingly pose a threat to him or innocents or allies. As such, his tactics in the arena are often nonlethal. He's fond of spells like Web and Sleep that incapacitate without causing harm.

If he does escape, he will desire to put some distance between himself and his new nemesis...preferably with companions to watch his back. Eventually he will want to confront the general again, on more equal terms, but he knows that time is not yet.[/sblock]

Same as you would any other magic weapon (A monk's unarmed strike can be enchanted with the ritual to make magic items, costing residium of the same amount as a regular weapon) so you could have +1 flaming fists of fury if you want.

Item Question: I would like to enchant Raven's unarmed strike. How do I do it? (Starting equipment wise)

Yeah, you can place any enchant on there that isn't tied to a specific weapon type. So enchants for "any" and "any melee" are all good. Just mark it as such on your character sheet, and Sparky will be able put it into the character builder.

raven? Did you rename Caged?

A gladiator wouldn't be allowed any enchantments that couldn't be taken away from him after a fight. If you want such an enchantment, it'd be on a pair of gloves or handwraps.

Unless the DM wants to house-rule something along those lines, the Monk is screwed. I don't suppose the arena folks want to enchant and disenchant his hands each time he fights.

The DM so rules. Any such wraps or gloves would count as a weapon and not a hand-slot item.

That also made me thing about Tattoos - I'll say 'no' to magic tattoos for starting gear.

@all: Please reiterate any questions you have regarding submissions.

I'm going to extend the submission deadlines because I suspect there's a good bit of timezone lag. Submission deadline is 11:59 PST (GMT -8) Sunday, September 19th.

Submissions should use the posted format.
