4E Realms History, Pathfinder & BOXM

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
I'm one of the people that is liking the backstory of the 4E Forgotten Realms, but not the mechanics of it. What I'm considering doing is changing the history just a little, so that dragonborn aren't gated in, but over the course of 100 years become numerous in number, or just entirely removing them. If I do keep them, Dragonborn would be mechanically unchanged from their Races of the Dragon entry. One other possibility is make half-dragons more plentiful instead.

Two other changes: I dislike the PoL feel of 4E, so the Realms would not lose any geographical features unless there is strong enough reason to warrant them. NPCs and deities would stay the same for the most part (no mass removal of either). Mystra's death is vital to the mechanical effects of the Spellplague, so she has to go.

The rest of the history I might leave alone. What I'd like to do is use the Pathfinder basics for the rules and throw in the Book of Experimental Might spell system to emulate the mechanical changes to spellcasting due to the Spellplague.

Personally, I don't mind the idea of advancing the Realms timeline by 100 years. It's a good idea. However, I don't like how WotC is implementing it.

Wiping out years of canon seems inappropriate just to retcon the setting to work for 4e. Plus, I wasn't fond of the idea of dragonborn in 3e so I'm not a fan of them becoming core in 4e.

I think you might be on the right track. When does the 4e Forgotten Relams book come out? You'll only be able to judge whether or not your plan is viable once you have the main book.

I don't mind the advancing of 100 years, but I don't like all the silly changes to go with 4e....I see no reason why the Dragonborn had to have a country. I've very miffed that they got Unther.
