D&D 4E 4e Setting Search?

I think it was written by a Nathan Toomey.

Gotta say, I've really been wanting to see those other two settings for quite a while, now.

I am not sure if I am remembering this correctly or not but I think the intent with 4E, at least early on, is to bring the campaign scope down to a more local level.

Actions would be more Duchy or Kingdom based, to use a european fuedal analogy, rather than globe spanning. This would really obviate any need for a real "world setting".

Given the number of published settings and home brews I really don't see the need or the business model behind doing another one.

I would much prefer Wizards focus their time on the support and playability of the game.

Nope, they got both. I dunno who wrote the third one.

We now get into the argument also often seen in the movie business - to make a new movie, or to make a sequel/remake of an old work?

It isn't quite comparable. You don't need a sequel or a remake of a movie to enjoy the original movie which you loved. However, you do need continued work being put into a campaign setting to continue to enjoy it. If you got a setting which hasn't seen print since one edition prior (And soon to be two editions prior), then you're not likely to be able to get a campaign based in one of those worlds going.

I'm a homebrewer, myself. I've never seen a published setting that does enough of what I want to take them whole. If I use them at all, it is a mine for different ideas. And for that purpose, rehashing old settings does very little for me.

I don't know if they'll need another setting search or not to accomplish it, but I'm not terribly interested in a a remake.

Well, since you're a homebrewer, I doubt it really matters if it's a new or old setting, as you can mine either one for ideas equally well. :)

Personally, though, I love just about all those settings. Ravenloft, Birthright, Planescape, Dark Sun, I adore each and every one of them. And while I'm not a huge fan, I know there're people who love al-Qadim, Spelljammer, and some of the other older settings equally. And most probably haven't been able to play in those campaign settings as much as they'd like to, because those settings are currently unsupported. If they were supported, however, then they'd have a much easier time of it starting up a new campaign. Even if it's only limited support, releasing a new campaign setting book and maybe half-a-dozen books.
