4E value < 3E value

...there really is no point for this conversation to exist. Nothing against the OP, but a topic like this was doomed from the start to be cast to a fiery death by the 4e zealots.
True - the problem is that the thread is solely about subjective perceptions of "value" and "dumbing down", plus the latter carries some negative connotations, so some people can read something into it.

Cheers, LT.

Have you read the thread? Thus far the posts have been very civil. Except one, which was by an anti-4E poster.

It was doomed the minute "less words= dumbed down" was posted. Which I still don't understand :hmm:

I often wonder why people on the intarweb have such a hard time taking things other's say at face value. Maybe some of us really rather WOULD have books that are easier on our eyes than one that is overcrammed and hard to read. As I get older and my eyes are not so good anymore- this is a legitmate factor for me.

hmmm...

More info I'll basically never read cos I have to strain?

Or the better laid out book with less info that I actually read all of?

What's the better value?

This point (along with the "font" thread posted elsewhere) really hit hiome with me as I just picked up the 3.0 core books a few days ago used- I have not seen these things in about 3 years or so. The strain on my eyes was immediate when I got into reading the MM after a half hour or so, and the layout is clearly "not so good" compared to even the slightly younger Eberron CS I own. Compared to the 4E core books, the 3.0 core book layout is a joke.

Value=usefullness, not page count. Most of the best RPG products I've owned have had minimal/modest page count.

I don't think I'd go so far as to call them sycophants.

It's a play off of the Red Dragon video. We zealots are making fun of ourselves.

I love 4E, I hate many choices Wizards is making, but this one seems pretty benign. Myself, I wouldn't want my players buying and using the same book that had all the "world secrets." There's got to be something to discover, no? I mean, the last CS had all the villain stats ---- you'd know exactly how tough the bag guys were, etc.
