D&D 4E 4Ed Dragon Compendium & DDI

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I don't think Bard would work as well for Magnus as Ranger does.

Psion taps into some of the same vibe as the Wizard might have...I'll have to think about that.

Warden might work at least as well as Ranger, though. That whole "Defender of Nature" vibe dovetails nicely with his anti-Aberration mission. What other bennies do you get? Oh yeah, and what are the prereqs?

For Warden, the prereq is 13 Strength. The benefit is "once per encounter as a free action, you can mark each enemy adjacent to you until the end of your next turn."

For the Bard, 13 Charisma prereq and "once per day, you can use the bard’s majestic word power." Also, you can wield bard implements.

For Psion, it's 13 Intelligence for the prereq. You can get a 1st-level psion at-will attack power that basically becomes an encounter power and is unaugmentable. And, of course,
you can wield psion implements when using psion powers and psion paragon path powers.

With the Ranger MC, I get to use Hunter's Quarry 1 target/encounter, and that adds damage.

Warden marking...what does it do?

Bard or Psion don't sound that viable for the concept. I'll still take a closer look at the Psion when I get my PHB3 back, though.

The Ranger MC allows you to get the Quarry damage possibly twice from its use. Since the Quarry only lasts until the end of your next turn. You would need to hit once 1st turn and once 2nd turn to get to deal that damage. After that its gone.

Hmmm...Hunter's Quarry is at least usable at range. Even though I expect this PC to wind up in melee- he already has, actually- he won't be in melee every encounter.

Unless something really catches my eye, I'm probably sticking with MC: Ranger.

Gak!

Another night of terrible rolls. We got to the last encounter of the evening and my dice went cold. As in Winter on Neptune cold.

I targeted the critter- a white dragon (solo brute, I'm told)- with my best stuff to hit it: Dire Radiance followed by Dread Star. Both targeted Will, its lowest defense, and I even burned an action point to do both in the same round. If either had scored a hit, its will defense would have been reduced.

I rolled a 7 and a 9. (Even if I had had a 20 in my casting stat, those would have been misses.)

The rest of the combat was spent spamming Eldritch Blast. I never hit with it- never got an attack roll over 8.

In the meantime, I wound up "Weakened"...and didn't roll a save roll over 3 until the next to last round of combat.

I have a feeling I'd enjoy the game more if my dice liked me.

In addition, the DM continued his hot streak against the guy playing the Dwarf fighter. That PC had an AC of 19 and got nailed nearly every round of combat tonight. My AC 14 Warlock (16 when he moved) was hardly scratched until the final battle.

FWIW, though, the dice had their fun with everyone. One guy trying out a Beastmaster Ranger watched as his panther sidekick failed roll after Athletics roll trying to jump up a wall he'd succeeded on the first try, and it wasn't until the battle with the white dragon that the cat landed a blow...despite flanking.

And another PC consistently outrolled my Warlock and my Wizard on Arcana rolls all evening. Did I mention he was a Archer-build Ranger?

At least your damage was never halfed although you were weakened. ;)

Ahhh, yes. In the game I ran on Saturday ALL of the players were suddenly afflicted by the dice gods. It got pretty hilarious (well, it amused me as the DM, but I'm cruel like that).

At least it wasn't a TPK. Any adventure you survived is success right?

Cheer up, in Hunger of Hadar you have a really nice level 5 daily that does auto-damage ;).
