4th Edition: A Wish List

My 4th edition wish: That there is NO 4th edition!

I've dropped some $170 into 3e, and they make 4e two years later! ACK!!!

LOL! *ahem* Sorry. I've probably dropped at least a thousand to 3E/d20. Even the slightest mention of a possibility of 4E makes me twitch.

I've probably dropped a thousand into 3E, and another thousand into 1E/2E, but that doesn't stop me from using any of the older products. Were 4E to come along, I'd still have two thousand dollars of useable material. :)

4E?

Because you want a tweaked Monk or Rogue? Um.... no.

Sorcerers get the higher level spells later so that people will still play Wizards... and heck, it's not like they study... remember school? The kids that studied did well and so did the kids who were just naturally bright. Then as college came the kids who studied had a minor edge, and in grad school, well, in grad school you don't find anybody not studying... and in Medical and Law School too. So the really cool powerful stuff comes to the guys who study first, but of course there are movie stars and con men so charismatic characters can eventually get to the top of the heap too.

Despite what some people say, I'd still like to see a classless system. Not necessarily a system with no classes, but the ability to be more flexible with character creation would be very valuable. Sure, you can still be a fighter. But wouldn't it be cool if you could, right off the bat, play a thief that can go ethereal, and the system assures you is more or less balanced?

I also like the idea of a freeform spell system. Again, not a replacement for the spells we already have, but an additional layer of functionality that allows nearly any spell effect imaginable to be created.

Then again, I'm just weird. That, and my homebrew system does all this already, so I'm prejudiced. (It doesn't run nearly as fast as D&D, tho.)

System ate my full reply. Let's just say I'd like to see a classless option (because the classes are too cool to drop outright), and a freeform spell design system. ("My thief can walk through walls!" "Well, my mage researched a spell to heal wounds! It doesn't work all that well, though.")

Edit: Well, apparently it didn't. That was... very strange. Pay me no heed.
