4th edition: Not happy with the new direction.

And, since he's refused multiple times to provide any sort of clarification on his position, I have no choice but to respond based on what little information on his position I've already been given.

Or not respond at all. You're not exactly compelled to participate in a thread you think is pointless.

Last time I checked this was the 4th edition discussion forum, not the only talk about 4th edition in a good light forum. I am going to talk about the new direction that 4th edition has gone and why I want the direction to change.
I can see why someone would think this is the "Only Talk About 4E' in a good light sub-forum, considering how many of the mainstays always argue in favor of Essentials.

However, I think it's a mistake to think that people who support Essentials or anything else that falls under the umbrella of what most trolls AND non-trolls call "D&D 4E's New Direction" are not critical of D&D4E.

I'm sure you recognize this, ForeverSlayer, but I just wanted to put that out there, since I consider myself a "4E Fan" who also has a lot of problems with some of the decisions that have been made in design, even way back before Essentials and even in spite of the fact that 4E is the first edition I've truly played.

Well, if it's fun to reply to the thread, then it is a good thing the thread is there, isn't it? ;) ;)

While you have something of a point, there are tons of things out there that are enjoyable to poke fun at, but which we would doubtless be better off without.

Rubbish.

The original 4e martial classes felt nothing like divine or arcane classes, and the essential's martial classes were a farce.

If anything, the original 4e martial classes were vastly more characterful than the inert, trap laden garbage of prevous editions, and perfectly fit the flavour of the martial power source.

If wotc continues down the path they took with the essentials martial classes, contnuing to sabotage popular archetypes to pander to people who no longer buy their books, they'll alienate the people who actually buy their books.
catastrophic You seem to have misinterpreted my comment. What I was saying was that many people (I was personally fine with it) had a hard time justifying the concept of an encounter or daily power in a Martial class to themselves. It broke immersion, seemed 'too much like magic/wuxia', or just plain felt wrong. You may not share the sentiment, but that's immaterial to my comment; WotC responded to the complaints of many about 4E Martial classes in the Essentials Martial classes (my theory regarding the removal of AEDU in Essentials Martial classes in any case).
