4th edition SRD?

Windman

First Post
I'm new to the whole 4th edition buzz and I have no idea if this issue has been explained, but I can't see reference to in the first few pages of thread titles here.

I'm a big d20 fan, but I've outgrown the Universe of D&D game worlds (most specifically I'm hooked on Mongoose's Conan RPG).

I would love to play an improved d20 system, but I'm not sure I want to shell out for a new set of Dungeon and Dragon books. Hopefully 4th edition will have a new SRD accompanying it for other publishers to adapt. Has there been any news of this?

If Wizards published a non-D&D specific set of the basic rule mechanics I would happily pay for that.

What's the news on this?

Yes, there will be an SRD, last I heard. But it will be about as D&D-specific as the 3e one is now, I'm almost completely sure.

Other publishers should be able to make use of the OGC from among 4e D&D (and maybe d20 Modern, take two - and other. . .?) books, as now.

edit --- for just about all the up-to-date info available anywhere, check here. :) As it states there, some of it is speculation, but all of that is clearly labelled so, AFAIK.
