Though I doubt this kind of information is known, I'll take a wild shot at it: Do they have any idea on when such a thing (if they do it) would be available. Specific date, Quarter/Year, or just sometime before next century?

Cool. By the time 3.1 comes out my PHB will have fallen apart from the abuse I put it through. Now the leather bound one I would just have to get out of principle.
[Kinda sad though. My 1E books are in far, far better condition then my 3E books. Bound like old time school textbooks, you know.]

No specific info, since they aren't sure exactly what the product will be or even if it will happen. Anthony Valterra is the one who brought it up and asked if we'd be interested in such a book. It's not in their catalog or anything, and they won't talk about release dates until it is, if they decide to do it at all.

If a 4th edition ever comes to exist, I wouldnt look for it before 2010.
1e ran from about 1976-1989 (more or less)
2e ran from 1989 to 2000
3e started in 2000.
So- if they allow the system to stay in the market about 10-12 years, the earliest we would see a 4th edition (unless WotC sells off the name) would be 2010.

History would indicate that D&D 4e will be out around 2010. 
If they do a revised third or 3.1 edition, I hope that any major changes are made available for free or via a (much cheaper) book. It would be very annoying to have to buy a whole new set of books for a few changes.
They could call it Unearthed Arcana. 'Cause you know they're going to use that title sooner or later.
My first set of AD&D 1e books got trashed by use. The MM was in the best shape, but even it was pretty bad. The DMG was demolished. Fortunately, I ended up with other copies . . . Sold the Fiend Folio though.

Its already out here in the North Carolina!!!!
It's based on the d20 die, I here they have this thing called the OGL, and they let other companies use the d20 logo free, with only a few restrictions!!!!!
It's so totally awesome! They got rid of THACO and all this....wait.....nope. Thats 3E. Sorry.
