Also, first post, so have some start-up XP just on principle.

So if previously stated that you can permanently control an undead with intelligence lower than 12 the mummy lord fits and also has an animate dead spell for itself. If you control a mummy lord it is counted as a lvl 10 cleric and has • Cantrips (at will): Sacred Flame, Thaumaturgy
• 1st level (4 slots): Command, Guiding Bolt, Shield of Faith
• 2nd level (3 slots): Hold Person, Silence, Spiritual Weapon
• 3rd level (3 slots): Animate Dead, Dispel Magic
• 4th level (3 slots): Divination, Guardian of Faith
• 5th level (2 slots): Contagion, Insect Plague
• 6th level (1 slot): harm
so you could expand your skeleton army a lot more could we not?

Yup. Somebody did the math in another thread and ended up with over 200 undead minions.

Once you get above a certain level you probably want to stop investing so heavily in Animate Dead and focus more on Planar Bound minions and Geased/Mass Suggestion'ed super-Wights created via Create Undead. (Super because they still get your Undead Thralls bonuses.)

What would you rather get with your 9th level spell slot, five super-Wights that join your army of undeath for a year and a day via Mass Suggestion IX (and which you can permanently charm with Geas IX over the next few days), or sixteen super-Zombies with no volition who need you to re-cast Animate Dead on them every day from now until forever? Zombies have their place when you need cheap troops immediately, especially if you dress them in decent equipment like chain mail and give them greatswords, but if you've got a month to prepare you'll find that you get a lot more out of twenty super-Wights than sixteen super-Zombies.

Or maybe the DM's BBEG has been doing this already all along...

Try making a copy of this spreadsheet to calculate the damage of an army of skeletons.
Just enter the parameters and all the dice rolls are randomly simulated, with advantage or disadvantage too.

Thread necromancy on a thread about necromancy, with a post that is definitely about necromancy - and a pretty decent post to boot.

Tacitus Ignotus is Necromancer of the Month! :D

it seems to me that... necromancer sucks as a Player choice and is definate contender for worst wizard path. Making use of it is a burden to the play. We need the abilities hinted at in the monster manual and such, like the hand of a murderer as a farmilure, or calling up fewer, but stronger creatures. Necromancer needs serious attention. Calling up an army should be at best a one off, temp summon. In short: Necromancer is a class for NPCs under DM control, not good for players at all. Need powers that are useful and not bogging down game to compensate for the stigma.
