(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

Terrin - Team Infiltrate

Terrin climbs onto the wagon and hands a parcel off to Copper, using the opportunity to lean in and say in response to his question, "Never played it but sure I could follow along."

He unpacks a lantern and hangs it above the wagon, lighting it to get a better look at the contents of the room as he unloads.

Team Infiltrate

When Copper momentarily ventured out of the storeroom to see about joining the gambling, the cultists there snapped at him, "Get that wagon unloaded, Scale! An' keep your coin for your tribute. You HAVE brought a tribute, right? There's no joining this cult without a tribute to the horde."

Similarly, when Terrin mentioned the possibility of playing (while dutifully unloading the wagon) the mercenary that was caring for the oxen told him, "Dragons only. Beasts have our own games, if you want to lose your coin to Cookie."

Terrin improved the storeroom's lighting, and had a look around as he worked to unload. The room was full of basic supplies, similar to what was in the wagon, only the wagons' food was fresher. Nothing seemed particularly interesting. Saphirion hid among the barrels and sacks.

Lorent was ignored as he left the storeroom and had a look at the prisoner. The drow matched his gaze with a defiant stare, saying nothing. There were only four chairs at the card-table, and the cultists there were engrossed in their game. They glanced at him now-and-then, but none showed any sign of recognition, and for the moment, they didn't remark on it.

OOC: @Neurotic - Probably a good time to roll CHA Deception to keep a ruse going. DC will depend on what you do and say.

Team Caves

Torhak found his way to the chief's tent, but he could not enter through the crude gate, as it was guarded by two kobolds, and its little wooden-spiked palisade surrounded it on three sides, with the fourth side up against the black rock of the cave wall.

OOC: He could try to jump over the palisade, but I'd want both a dc12 STR Athletics & a dc15 DEX Stealth check (in spite of being invisible, you wouldn't have Advantage, because that check would be all about being silent, not unseen). Wanna try it?

Meanwhile, inside the hut, a scrawny kobold servant arrived carrying five fist-sized eggs, with mottled brown shells, and handed them out to everyone, including the chief. He held his up and said, "May you be mighty!"

And he cracked it open by banging it on a rock and ate it, getting some on his face. While his face was burried in it, Corrah quickly fed hers to Scamp.

OOC: I think everyone said they'd eat it. Please give me a dc11 CON Save. It is not what you'd call "good". If you fail, you will have the Poisoned Condition for a time (TBD), but you can hold it down unless you fail by 5. You just won't look or feel well. Oh, @Kobold Stew, Scamp will have to roll, too.

Team Lake

Guldred the lizardfolk spoke a terribly garbled common, but he spoke it, and he answered Aywin, "Don't... know much. Men come from it! Get water. Some-times."

He stopped struggling, as Shade-9 held him firmly, but did not hurt him. And his yellow eyes reflected the sword's light as they blinked at the newcomers, patiently taking measure of them.

OOC: If you don't hurt him and let him go, he'll stick around for awhile.

"Of course I brought tribute!" Copper reels in mock indignation as he quickly unloads the wagon. "I just gotta deposit it to the horde. But cards are a passion of mine, you know?"

"Uh, where is the horde, by the way?"
He asks as he aproaches the table, looking for an excuse to get close and weasle his way in at the table while trying to get a feeling for the situation.

Urgan takes the egg and devours it, following Torhak's examples. He's eaten such things before, and despite their magnificent taste (in his opinion, orcs have a much wider palate to taste variation than humans do), it does sometimes upset his stomach.

OOC: Con save 1d20+2=4. Fail. Poisoned. [apologies -- forgot to put Urgan's name in the roll]

As it will today.

Scamp really enjoys his egg, though.

OOC: Con save 1d20+1=18. Pass.

Team Infiltrate

One of the four cultists finished his hand at the gambling table and pushed back his chair, eyeing Copper. He'd been told to finish unloading the wagon, and he'd disobeyed, but the cultist (who Lorent noticed had the pendant of a Dragon-Fang, equal to his own stollen rank) took it to be the zeal of a new recruit, eager to place his tribute before the Dragon.

He told Copper, "You sure that you're up for it? Many tremble before the might of the Monarch Reborn. One false step and He will devour you. And that's if you make it that far. Lord Silakul may decide that you aren't worthy, and you'll have to pass his test of loyalty first. Maybe you should just unload the wagon and keep your mouth shut as a Scale, first, hey?"

Shamal's smile dims as he sees that Urgan has immediately swallowed the egg. He says to Urbone...

Urbone, oh mighty one, you have truly blessed the hungry stomachs of your guests, and may respect always follow your name. My people receive such offerings with their own blessing of thanks, and I shall sing a song of thanks for your gift, and partake of your hopsitality.

Shamal gathers the remaining eggs, and performs a ritualistic song in an unfamiliar language over them, although, on occasion, the word "Urbone" can be heard.

At the end, Shamal smiles widely and says, Now my ancestors know of your gift, so that your honor shall be recorded in the winds of the desert, oh Sheikh!

Shamal holds up the egg as if it were the most wondrous object ever, and then devours it.

OOC:
While singing the song as a ritual, Shamal casts Purify Food & Drink on the eggs.
And enjoys his immensely.

Shade-9 maintained contact with the lizardfolks arm, a gentle grip that ensured containment but not harm. The Warforged allowed Aywin to lead the interrogation and would take the genasi's cue as to Lizardfolk release or coercive escalation. Silently he monitored the interaction - eye movements, muscle twitching and vocal tone.

[Subject: Guldren- Lizardfolk] Non-Hostile, response indicates panic and submission.
[Subject: Aywin] has established communication [Ongoing]
Comprehension adequate. Use Simple Phrasing.
Disposition[Guldren]:
Cautious, subservient [Utility Evaluation: Limited, some terrain familiarity and observational value]

S
omething the Lizardfolk had said was flagged by Shade-9's heuristic processors - "Men come from it!" - causing him to turn and look over to the structure with its red crystal, his optic filters switching before he turned back to find Darius

"Darius, is there any indication that the structure or crystal may be a teleportation node?"

OOC: @FitzTheRuke I dont suppose my Detect magic is still active? :)

@VLAD the Destroyer
