D&D General 5.5 and making the game easier for players and harder for DMs

No. But the thread was about that, right?
WotC makes many status effects so DMs have it harder and need digital help or so. Or whatever. Hard to follow these threads nowadays.
more status effects were one of the points brought up for why 2024 is becoming more of a pain for DMs. The topic is about the latter, not about one of those reasons specifically

Not sure what to say when I read things like this. I have never had difficulty challenging PCs at any level. The last fight for my previous campaign I came close to perma-killing one PC, had others in single digits at times.
I rarely use the encounter guidelines (because, A. they're clunky without a speadsheet or other app to calculate things, and B. I'm an old fart that started DMing before there were challenge ratings and I usually just eyeball things). Apparently, my eyeballing things needs new glasses because I've "overtuned" encounters on more than one occasion.

So, I really think it comes down to if a DM wants to challenge a party, it's still more than possible in 5e. I've done it regularly.

Easiest solve for that is just cut down the number of players at your table. That way you can have long turns that come back to the player faster and therefore reduce their boredom.

But I suspect too many DMs want to have more players at their table for whatever their reasons... and thus those DMs want turns to be so short so that they come back around to each player as fast as possible. But that really means those DMs shouldn't be playing games like 5E. Cause you can't play in the AD&D tradition of 10-12 players that way without the game being nothing but grind.
I hate DM for more than 4 players. And, yet...

Perhaps it would be better if talking about one's unhappiness with WotC or the game they make was against the forum rules? There are plenty of forums out there that have similar restrictions. They are echo chambers.

Also, we really don't need more hyperbole regarding how people other than you feel.
Feel free to block me if you're tired of hearing my "hypebole."
