5 Foot Step Question

Right, I get it. I just wasn't able to find anything in the rules to support it.

Based on the rules that I have read, it says you can take a 5 foot step using any mode of movement that you have (it specifically mentions fly and climb). The other portion that I have read is that you can not take a 5 foot step if the terrain is difficult but there is nothing saying that burrowing is movement into difficult terrain.

Can you point me to where you found this specific mention of fly and climb? I can't seem to locate it.

PHB, pg 144, last paragraph. At least its there for the SE version. I would think it is there for the normal version too.

I see. All I have here with me is the SRD, and I haven't been able to find that line yet. I'll have to check my PHB when I get home. Thanks.

Take 5-Foot Step

You may not take a 5-foot step using a form of movement for which you do not have a listed speed.

The clear implication being, that if you *do* have a listed speed; be it Climb/Swim/Burrow/Fly/Whatever, you *can* make a 5' step.

A falling PC can't make a 5' step in the air because he doesn't have a Fly speed.

A PC under a Fly spell *does* have a Fly speed and can make a 5' step straight up.

Sorry, going up with a fly spell reduces movement, that kills any chance of adjusting up. You can adjust any other direction with a Fly spell, just not up or in reverse.

If the maneuverability granted was 'perfect' rather than 'good', one could have 5' adjusted up.
