5 foot step

So say a monk uses a "Sparring Dummy of the Master" correctly and can now take a 10 foot step whenever they would be allowed a 5 foot step...

Would said monk provoke an AoO after full-attacking an enemy and then taking said 10 foot step?

I would say no. My reading is that they're essentially taking a 5' step that happens to be ten feet long.

Great question. Does the entry for the "Sparring Dummy of the Master" say anything about the 10 ft. step "replacing" the 5 ft. step? If it specifically says replace, I would allow it (***edit*** the 10ft w/o AoO) because in essence all references to 5ft. in rule books would be 10ft.

Can you post the description as written?

"Sparring Dummy of the Master: This battered wooden dummy is designed for monks to practice their striking and blocking techniques. It consists of a plain round wooden post that stands 6 feet high and 1 foot thick. Six smaller posts stick out horizontally from the post, roughly representing a defending enemy's limbs.
To gain the benefit of its magic, a person with at least one level in monk must train with the dummy 8 hours a day for four weeks. If the training is ever interrupted for more than 24 hours, she must begin again. If this training is interrupted twice, the monk can never gain the benefit of the sparring dummy.
Once she has completed the required training, the monk is allowed to make a 10-foot adjustment whenever she can normally make a 5 foot adjustment."

Verbatim except for a little typo fix.

Thanks, guys

I'd definitely say no AoO, then, because of the term "adjustment".

If they'd simply said "can move 10 feet whenever they could normally make a five foot step", it could be argued... but I think "adjustment" makes it clear.

Xeoble I am curious as to what supplement this item can be found in. Would you mind telling me what it is from?

It's from A&EG.

The best thing about it is that it's not "used up"... so as a DM, you can buy one for your evil monastery, and generate infinite hordes of 10-foot-stepping evil monks! :)
