50 ways to get rid of magic items...

I was reading the rust moinster thread and it occured to me,

There must be 50 ways to get rid of that pesky magic item.

So far we have:

1) Rust monsters - and they are cute to boot!

2) Treants

3) The 5th level wizard with dispel magic and shatter.

What are some other ways that you use to get rid of magic items in the game?

8) Capture the PC carrying the item(s) and steal 'em. Not easy, but if it fits into your plot it's less heavy-handed.

did the disenchanter make it into the Tome of Horrors or other monster guide?

The aritfact destroying techniques from 1e were mucho cool. Besides "stepped on by a humble ant", there was, IIRC:

- Steeped in the brain juice of Bahamut, the platinum dragon
- Boiled in the heart's blood of Tiamat, the chromatic dragon
- Crushed under the heel of a titan
- Smashed between the Gates of the World (or something like that)

There are 6-10 others.

Destroyed at the place of it's creation (wonder where that came from)
I think it was the heel of Talos the triple iron golem (which was actually written up in the BoVD) rather than a titan.
Bath in the light of truth (which in it's purest form shines, whatever that means)
I don't remember any of the others
