WotC 5E 2020 Book Clue - I need your help!

Cormyr has cities so if the use of the word town is important as you think, then Cormyr doesn't fit.

Having finally listen to it for myself I noted several things.

1. He said he's doing three things right now and at least one is an Adventure, one has the text done, one is in second draft, and the third is just starting, I think they could be all for this year.

2. He briefly mentioned in connection to the Adventure I think a minor Gazeeteer he'd done, which suggests that the AP might be the one with the text finished.

3. He later on mentions that he is currently working on a Gazetteer with multiple sections. He mentions doing towns with this section with stuff like leaders, militia, heraldry, comfort ratings and RIVALS towns, which these towns aren't apart of the same nation! My first thought when putting all this together was Zendikar, but there aren't that many towns in the setting to have major rivalries, so my second and much better thought was he is writing a section on Chessenta, it's towns/cities have huge rivalries with each other, each city/town has it's own leader, and their own seperate Militias, and because they are cities/town states they could have their own Heraldry.

The only issue is that Chessenta is the Forgotten Realm's Greece, although with Mesopotamian/Canaanite/Egyptian elements, so I don't see the book being just Chessenta because that would step on the toes of Theros, hardcore, so a FRCG/Sea of Fallen Stars is a distinct posdiblity.

Another possibility is ten towns, which do have rivalries in an AP designed to tie in with Dark Alliance which is coming out this year, although I really, really hope I'm wrong as it's my least favourite part of the Forgotten Realms, and another AP for the Swordcoast is upsetting. But it's a distinct possibility sadly.

I'll reiterate that I don't think it's Cormyr. I haven't seen any other hints to it, so I don't think it's likely.

Here's what I think the gazetteers are; I think Welch's book is a collection of adventures, set all over the Forgotten Realms. I think every adventure is set in a different location, and that for each location, there is a gazetteer. What the locations are I have no idea, but they are probably a collection of towns, cities, and other settlements.

Either that, or I'll guess this is for the Outlands.

Storm King's Thunder already dealt some with Icewind Dale, so why bring that back in another book? Unless there were unresolved plot hooks there? I don't own the book, so I can't go and look it up.

Storm King's Thunder also dealt with Waterdeep, and Tyranny of Dragons dealt with Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate...

Edited to add: Icewind Dale is less than a page of material in Storm King's Thunder, a few descriptive paragraphs and a random encounter chart.

Probably, but the Fall book may be a Setting book, and the Gazeeter material would be Perkins domain, as with Eberron.

They’ve done 3 settings in a row. I think they’ll hold off on another setting for 2021. We are due a rules expansion & adventure. Possibly the rules expansion being a monster supplement.

BG3 was scheduled for release in 2020, which would bring it in line with an autumn planar AP by WotC. Now the video game might get pushed back due to COVID, but that won't change WotC's publishing order. It'd be nice if both the game book and the game could have been released in the same season, but if they had to split due to the virus, then so be it.

The one thing I would think though is that whatever planned launch weekend WotC was planning on doing along the lines of Stream of Annihilation or Stream of Many Eyes is probably going to be pushed back into late summer if not cancelled altogether. The past two years it was in June I think (?) but I don't see that happening now.
We also can’t be sure that BG3 is a Planar adventure either.

One might've said the same after two in a row, bit here we are. 5E Setting books are rule expansions and monster supplements, at this point: why have dedicated rules or monster books when you can have a bit of something for everyone?

And the 10 towns of Icewind Dale are too rough and tumble to worry about anything like heraldry and rivals and friendliness.

From my little research, I might bet on it being about the towns and cities of the Lord's Alliance. I can see all the these things applying to them:

And since Laeral Silverhand is the open Lord of the Alliance, and got that set with her name on it released....

Well, the same Wiki cites the Legacy of the Crystal Shard Gazetter as saying that "While life within each community exemplified diligence and partnership, relations between each of the communities demonstrated the fierce competitive spirit that was needed to survive in the North."

The friendlines rating sounds like it might be a travelogue rating by Volo, which would be humorous.

When it comes to political rivalry and tensions, even armed, in the Realms, I think Tethyr would be a good fit: in its past it has undergone civil war, secessions, internal rivalries; and it has a feudal system more so than some other Realm places -I guess no one remembers this, but I was the first one to guess in these forums when the Waterdeep adventure was to be released. I hope I am right again, because Tethyr and the Lands of Intrigue are among my favorite Realms regions

The cities of the Lords Alliance are all allies, and two of the main cities already have Gazetteers, Waterdeep, and Baldur's Gate, although there is competiveness between them, I wouldn't call it rivalry.

Still your point about 10 towns being too rough for Heraldry is actually a great point, and the comfort thing doesn't fit 10 towns either, none of them are that pleasant to live in.

I'm wondering, is there a chance it could be a Eldraine Campaign Book?
