Actually, the optional marking rule in the DMG allows anyone (who wants to mark) to make one opportunity attack per marked foe's turn without using a reaction.

yeah, but that rule is one of the ones i see being really optional. most DMs i've talked to really like 5e's simplicity in combat and would be hesitant to throw in every little side rule written in the DMG.

Sure. I mentioned it because the third point in the post I was quoting already brought up an optional rule.

Though it's really not especially complicated and does go a long way toward making characters sticky (or at least punishing), if they want to be.
