D&D 5E 5E Survivor - 5th Edition Survives! [+]

It's been nearly 120 posts since our last elimination, and AD&D 2E has really rallied! It's currently in the #1 slot with 30 points, and AD&D 1E is on the ropes with only 8 points remaining. My prediction of a "long and protracted battle over the next 200 posts" is still holding true, but it looks like 1E and 2E have swapped positions. I didn't expect that.

Sure, it's still too early to call...but interesting nonetheless.

Nice thing about 2e: as much flak as THAC0 gets, I actually think it was a brilliant innovation. Descending AC may be unintuitive for those of us who are used to WotC-era D&D, but THAC0 did a truly admirable job of taking the math behind the old AC tables and condensing them into a simple formula, that really isn’t difficult to use once you learn how.

At the risk of being called a THAC0 apologist, for those of us who found the attack matrixes of D&D and AD&D very clunky and slow and hard to for our eyes to follow, it was a godsend. I was glad 2E adopted it, but it was actually introduced in one of the late UK modules for 1E, explaining the math for it - so I was a REALLY early adopter of it.

Of course, ascending AC is even easier, but at the time THAC0 was a fix for a system that appeared unchangeable (for reasons I am no longer sure of except that habit has a habit of inventing reasons for itself).
