5th lvl Arcane Spells ! Simbuls Spell Matrix ?! [FR/MoF spell]

Basically a 5th level Arcane spell that allows me to prepare 4 spells of 3rd level or lower that I can cast as free actions later up to the spell's duration ->10 mins/lvl. (1hr40mins for me)

Would I be wasting a 5th lvl spell ? Or this the ultimate lets make Magic Missiles/Fireballs fly ? I am a 10th going to 11th lvl Sorceror. Even with Haste I always have spells leftover.

So what is the general consensus on this spell ?

What about other 5th level spells so that we might compare as choices:

Hold Monster (PHB)
Dominate Person (PHB)
Ghost Form (Tome Blood) - Incorporeal but visible
Energy Buffer (Tome blood ) - 24hrs absorbs one time energy attack.

I'd say this is a really good spell if you know an encounter (especially a big encounter) will be happing in the near future (few hours). Otherwise, who knows when that next encounter will occur

What about Ghost Form ? I was quite impressed with it... no fireballs and no normal weapns hitting you !

Any 5th lvl spells previous posts anyone can lead me too ?

It's a pretty cool battle-type spell, but unfortunately, if you place four spells in it, you lose 4d4 hit points, and those hit points can't be healed so long as the spell matrix is active. Personally, I think the spell is much better suited for defense spells.

Also, consider picking up this spell. It's a nice beefer-upper and it doesn't interfere with you casting spells.

Spell Matrix is okay, but as a sorceror, I'd wait for Spell Trigger, at level 9. It has the same flaws as Matrix (pricey focus, does unhealable damage while active, limited duration) but you can SO much MORE with it!

Being able to chain level 4 spells into a sequence makes almost all the good arcane buffs castable with a single free action. Or you can keep a Teleport in the matrix set to a contingency as an emergency escape.

This group of spells doesn't really come into its own without sequencing, IMO...and the higher the level, the better. The Contingency effect (and remember you can set a whole sequence to a contingency too) is just icing on the cake.

Not to mention that as a 9th level spell, your caster level will be high enough that even the limited duration will last several hours.

The spell I am taking a good look at is ghost form... quite versatile and 1 min/lvl.
