$64CDN for Book of the Righteous?? Not in this lifetime...

First Post
I just visited my local shop to have a look through book of the righteous and I was appaled at the price. $64CDN before tax, and thats not even marked up! There's no way! I recently picked up Monsternomicon, a $50 purchase. That was bad enough, but I'm enamored of the Iron Kingdoms setting to such an extent that I paid it. But $64?? I think thats a dangerous precedent for a black & white interior, hardcover product. Regardless of how good it is, its just too much for this consumer to bear... Incidentally, the shelf was full of them and they didn't look like they were moving very fast.

That's right. Most shops I've seen it at are listing it at $64 or $65 CDN (at least in the bigger cities like Toronto and Montreal).

That's a SLIGHT markup on the list cover price (it is a 40USD book which means you'd pay about 63-65 CDN for it if you bought it in the States at list price), although in Ottawa you can find it cheaper since we have a SWEET gaming store that keeps prices down below the exchange rate.

If you look around the net I'm sure you can find it cheap. I picked it up for 30$ at the local shop. It is a fantastic book though. It easily rates as one of the best d20 products ever.

ACK! it's a $40 (US) hardcover that's B&W? Deluxe SAS was full color and $45...

If that's the case, I think I'll pass..I was looking forward to this book too... :(

What about M&M what's the price and is it B&W as well?

You guys should see how much the prices in Australia suck. Monsternomicon $75, Mongoose's Judge Dredd $100, AEG's Nyambe $90...now that bites and my collecting has slowed to a crawl. MY FLGS has so many books on hold for me that they're starting a shelf out the back just for my 'lay-bys'. ;-)>

Cheers

Book of the Righteous is a bargain. No, really. To show you what I mean, let's have some fun with math.

Green Ronin frequently produces 64 page books for $14.95. No one says boo about that price, so presumably people think it's fair. I can tell you that a book that size runs about 40,000 words. I can also tell you that Book of the Righteous clocks in at 270,000 words. That means that Book of the Righteous is 6.75 times the size of one of our 64 page books.

Now bear in mind that we pay by the word and we use the same ratio of art (which also has an expense) in all our books. On top of that, it's a hardcover, which is more expensive to produce. If the price to word ratio on Book of the Righteous was the same as, say, Armies of the Abyss, do you know how much BoR would cost? $100.91.

Book of the Righteous is packed with great content and beautiful art, and it's wrapped up in a sturdy hardback. It is well worth your $40.

FYI, Mutants & Masterminds is 192 pages, full color, and $32.95.

Hey, at least you don't have to pay Ontario's PST! :)

(Just be glad we don't live in Quebec where it'd be even more expensive).

Also, I think it's worth it. The book's large enough to use as a raft if you get stuck on a deserted island. Although it may not float, so forget that idea...

Agreed with Pramas & FDP James.

Although I should add that I saw it in Montreal for the same price as in Toronto. (So I'm not in agreement regarding the price difference in Quebec).

Capitaine Quebec (Montreal) has it at $65 CDN.
Hairy Tarantula (Toronto) also has it at $65 CDN. (well... had it... I bought the last one they had earlier this week, they said they would restock early next week).

It's also not just about the size, the book is freaking great. The first three reviews are all rating this 5/5 and when I get around to reviewing it, it'll be 5/5 also. Color and other things that make a book look good are not needed, not that this is a badly looking book.
