$64CDN for Book of the Righteous?? Not in this lifetime...

I was up in canada in the last week of sepetember/first of november last year, and I remember something came out right that time, don't remember what, so I picked it up in a canadian store... I know that, once you convert the money, it's really not as much as it seemed to me, but still... paying something close to 50 bucks for a book going for 30 at home felt strange :)

But assuming that the divided US could have walked over Canada seems ill-conceived considering we are the only ones to ever burn down the White House.

:D

I thought you said that "Canada wasn't even a country until 1867." :p

Seriously folks, my post was all in good fun. I described the results of an invasion as an "imponderable" not as an action that "would have succeeded without doubt."

In fact, it would have been a stupid idea, which is why Lincoln didn't do it. The British (which the Canadians still were at that time ;) ) were already leaning toward the South because the British mills needed the cotton produced by the slave plantations in the South. (Sources of cotton in North Africa had not yet been fully developed.) In fact, Stanton showed a remarkable lack of judgment throughout his career and held his position more for political reasons than competence.

As far as an alliance between the U.S. and Quebec, we've always had a soft spot for the French ever since Lafayette kept us from getting our butts kicked in our Revolutionary War. (Of course the French and British never give up an opportunity to tweak each other's noses :D )

I wasn't going to weigh in on this issue until I had made a purchasing decision one way or another. I tracked down the book last night, took a very close look at it, and then decided to buy it. I can see why this is earning such high ratings, and I don't feel at all like I parted with too much money for this book.

I also want to say good job to everyone involved with this book.

Every once in a while there is a paragon book out there that is worth the price, I feel that the Book of the Righteous is in that category. I picked it up a couple of weeks back and can find several applications to my campaign world with it.

Even a point of the book I disagree with (racial gods, I liked the racial pantheons from 1st edition, and find that these fit well into my campaign world) is covered and addressed professionally in the book, with suggestions.

With the statless gods, the avatars from Deities and Demigods mesh well with my campaign schematics and carry more weight.

Just my 2 coppers,

Could you explain what you mean in more detail here? Are you saying that you are using poth BotR, and Deities and Demigods? If yes, how? Are you just changing the names for the avatar descriptions, or what?
Thanks,

very interested...

I am using both the Book of the Righteous and Deities and Demigods, using the Book gods as the deities of the most powerful continent, the Greyhawk gods as deities of the next biggest and so forth with many of the pantheons, and adding a few (such as the racial pantheons from the old Dragon magazines).

The avatars exist for the Greyhawk and other deities in the D&DG (obviously), so I am creating avatars as per the D&DG as needed for the other gods and goddesses.

In my campaign, the deities are very active, when the mood strikes them, but usually intervene via avatar, only making a personal appearance when it is time for onlookers to think about running in the other direction.

I agree in part with Green Ronin's stance on racial gods, but then again, I like the idea of racial pantheons, focusing more directly on a particular aspect of say a gnome's darker side. To me, a racial pantheon is similar to the Norse and Greek pantheons existing at the same time, the gods don't all crossover, and Odin isn't Zeus, but serves (for the most part) the same role.

Sounds like you have god a LOT of gods there... I'd be really interested in seeing your BotR Avatar stats when you finish them if you would like to share them.

BotR has been really helpful to me in detailing a few of my Homebrews Pantheons. I have created a Sun God for a monotheistic society , and Three Elemental Gods for another so far... I'll probably use other BotR details for a more typical pantheon on a different continent too. I have had to do some major tweeking, but this book will definitely save me a lot of time in this and future campaigns!

Thanks

I should have specified that I am not using ALL of the gods from any resource, save the racial pantheons, to bring more depth to the races, there are, however, quite a few deities (and cultures) in my campaign world.

Once I get more organized, and if I am not violating anything, I would be happy to post my campaign's take on the Book of the Righteous avatars.

You won't be violating anything as I happily grant you permission to use the names for such purposes. :D

If you want, we have a home for just such purposes -- the support site for BotR (The Tree of Life) has a "Crunch" section, where we'd be happy to post peoples' takes on avatars of the gods. Just send along such takes to botr@greenronin.com.

You can check out the Tree of Life at:

I think only Japan gets cheap flights to Hawaii; annex to them ;)
Personally, that would be a good idea (the best being an independant Sovereign State of Hawaii). I would go so far to say, "Here, Canada. Please take our 50th star." :p

As for cheap flights, I doubt it. Considering our location strategically, security would be first and foremost, from airport to seaport. Now more than ever, since Al Qaeda lost their Afghan base of operation and is moving toward Asia where they already have allies and contacts as well as foothold in many places.

Sorry, don't want to get political here. I can never understand why our American dollar is expensive in Canada but cheap in UK.
