6th Level Character Challenge

Okok. halfling cleric. With 1 level munchkin ranger? Nah.

Build a halfling cleric with Ambi and rapid shot. Saves like hell and grappling won't scare him much (inflict.....)

And it's just annoying if the BBEG flees through a rathole.

What about the 6th level Death Attack smack: You have a monk fighter who has the freeze the lifeblood feat with expert tactician and improved death attack essentially allowing a coup de' grace against any foe failing their save against the freeze the lifeblood. The character will have fairly good saves from the monk, can tumble to avoid AoO, and take out many a character in one shot.

I don't remember for sure, but I think you can engineer the character to be able to get Dodge, Mobility and Spring Attack as well. This would obviously stack nicely with the death attack as you can hide as part of a move action and if the character can get behind cover doesn't have to worry about characters observing him (so does not need to make the bluff check). Moreover, with a high movement rate (from the boots - you know which) he should be able to move far enough that he could find cover, hide and continue moving.

Moreover, this makes a really cool pawn type character with the whole assassin like persona.

the monk idea

It's ok. Freeze the lifeblood. The DC of this might be 16 or 17, fort save. The fighter will fail 50% of the time or so. Then the monk can do the expert tactition and improved death blow thing to get a free x2 critical. Given a monk's damage at 6th level, it won't drop a fighter. Wizard, yes, fighter, maybe. If the fighter fails the fort save. It's a bit of a one hit wonder. IF the monk springs back away, the party can ready actions to do reasonable things when the monk tries the trick again.

This monk might kill the wizard in one shot, or...maybe not. What is the coup de gras damage from a 6th level monk? 1d8 +6 or 8? Or 10 if lucky? The wiz might even survive an attack, and then the monk is gonna be hurting. The monk's AC won't be that great at that level (not enough cash), and hit points will be lowish (can't spend points on con), etc.

I just think it sounds more effective than it will actually play out.

Plus it requires every durn feat you got, if it's even possible (I have not done the math).

What will you end up, Monk2/fighter4? Saves not that great after all.

I gotta vote for the first suggestion: Rakshasa. I don't have the Savage species in front of me, but I thought about it: Reads minds (continuously, I might add) to learn all of the PC's secrets, alter self (again continuously) to appear as other people if he wants, immune to 3rd level and lower spells (wow!), damage reduction of something like 10 or so (!), casts as a sorcerer of the same level AND can cast 1st level divine spells too. The only real drawback is a blessed crossbow bolt, and I know not many parties carry a pack of them around.

Not only the above but a Rakshasa is intelligent enough to infiltrate a party and be super scary when finally revealed for who he really is. He is lawful evil and would align with some other BBEG that would be more powerful than him. Add some feats and weapon focus and he is pretty kick @$$ in melee, and if you have some cronies to help you out as meat shields you will have it made throwing sorcerer spells at an enemy.

As the evil guy you could keep the fact that you know magic secret and fight along side the front lines since you would be immune to most critters too. Or vice-versa, just cast from the back lines as a sorcerer while you know them and then rip them apart if they engage in melee with you. You could be very versitile, but you might want to hide from the churches with high level clerics that have true-sight.

rakshasa

I'm not sure a 6th level rakshasa is equivalent to a 6th level NPC.

??.

If some book, somewhere, says it is, then heck yeah! That's the way to go! Immune to spells, etc etc. yeah baby! Sorcerer/fighter nasty combo from the netherworld! But.

Is it realyl equivalent to a 6th level npc?

Somehow, I think it must not be. If it is. Golly gee whillikers. Get me a copy of SS!

SS defines a Rakshasa "class" that gives you bits of the power as you level. When you reach the end of the class, you are a full MM Rakashasa. They were not talking about a Rakashasa with 6 levels of some standard class.

How about a doppelganger/cleric 4th or 5th. Looks like a dwarf or some other base speed 20 race.

Stubby little legs always bring him into battle late, he's just a healer. Good cook, handles all the meals and enjoys it. So understanding, always knows just what to say and what is bothering a PC. Helpful and generous with the healing.

He also has a passion for halfling liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti. Nothing quite like corn fed elf and since he is the company cook, the elf gets lots of corn. Changes form to lead the PC's here or there. Never around whenever a true sight effect is available ("Oops, did I break your Gem of Seeing")

Started as an unaligned cleric with trickery domain, more good than evil. Spontaneous casting is healing. Had trouble with normal society they never liked finding out that he wasn't what he seemed. And then he met an Insidious Mastermind, who being an insidious mastermind thought "Gee, what a keen little spy!". Now he has death domain and death touch "I tried to heal him but he's already dead. Yumyum..err boohoo.

Use his items to wait for the right moment. Build trust and betray. Or, if the PC's have been kind and developed a true relationship over a long period perhaps a Benedict Arnold to the Insidious Mastermind. Depends on how the campaign goes. I don't know, the PC's won't know and in a perfect world maybe even the DM doesn't have to know till it matters.
