7th lvl Party vs. Beholder

Squire James said:
I guess if you wanted to kill a 7th level party with an encounter that's technically EL 7, send a half-fiend troll after them... better known as The Fireball Test (resist fire/acid 20 remember!). The best way to kill it would be to knock it out with subdual damage, and declare a Fireball as a coup de grace (about the only thing most parties have that can cause real damage to such a monstrosity). You can coup-de-grace with a spell? I didn't know that.

...and if they don't kill it, you can have them poke out the central eye of the beholder and have it return as a beholder mage. Lots o' fun for the whole family.

Well...the party stumbles across a clan of Bugbears...with some class levels in there. Cleric, Barbarian, Fighter, Rogue...Sorcerer...etc.

Tough fight insues. Later, when the party has recovered and are continuing to explore the ruins in search of the Bugbear treasure hoarde...they find it, and trouble finds them.

While they are sorting through their new found wealth, jump them with the bane of all PC's...an evil NPC adventuring group that wants the treasure they just earned.

Just my evil thoughts...

Cedric

P.S. Don't think tougher...think smarter.
