For the past few months, we’ve been building this new edition with you, and this Kickstarter campaign is another major milestone!

You are a Hero. Change the world!​

In 7th Sea 3rd Edition, you’re not a nameless adventurer. You’re the main character in a swashbuckling movie! Your decisions can overturn conspiracies, topple sovereigns, prevent a war between two nations, seize an artifact from a secret society before it can gain power over a kingdom, turn an entire fleet with a single act of panache that shifts sailors’ allegiance, or bring a historical truth into the light, reshaping Théah’s balance for the next ten years.

Your character is a Hero. They take risks when everyone else hesitates, win with style even when the situation is desperate, make choices that impact the world, and live with the consequences.

System​

3rd Edition is built on a system designed to serve pacing and staging. The keywords are “heroic” and “cinematic.”

The system is:
  • easy to learn, so you can start playing fast;
  • cinematic, supporting action and panache;
  • inspired by Roll & Keep, with clear, dynamic resolution;
  • based on two colors of d10s: one color for your action dice (what you accomplish), and another for your wound dice (what you suffer and the consequences that build up);
  • designed to encourage risk-taking, “success with style,” and interesting consequences.
All of it is developed with the community: the system is in playtest (phases 1 and 2 already completed, phase 3 open to backers), to reach a final version that brings unbridled action and bold, panache-filled feats to the table!

ABOUT THE STRETCH GOALS​

Now that the project is funded, we can finally share more details about the stretch goals we have planned for this pledge.

Your support not only brings 7th Sea Third Edition to life, it also allows us to go further, enrich the line, and offer you an even more generous experience.

The main addition this Kickstarter unlocks is a complete campaign, which will be added to the rewards. This adventure will use the setting, lore, and new system presented in the Corebook, giving you a fully crafted experience designed for this new edition.

As the crowdfunding progresses, we hope to welcome new backers to join and grow our ranks. Each new milestone brings us closer to an even richer and more ambitious version of this project, which we are proud to carry with you.

This is an important step for us because we want this new edition to be not just a rulebook, but a true gateway to epic adventures around the table!

And that’s not all. We have already thought of many other bonuses and surprises to offer throughout the campaign. This additional campaign will be at the heart of it, but it will not be the only stretch goal planned ;)

🗺️ CASTILLE, 1678​

We are docked at the quay of Vaticine City, the beating heart of the Vaticine Church, which claims to seek knowledge in Théus’ name, though the Inquisition controls it with an iron hand from within.

Over the past ten years, Castille has projected the image of a peaceful and prosperous kingdom, where royal authority has grown stronger. The Good King Sandoval now rules fully as an adult. His marriage to Isabella, the “Holy Daughter of Castille,” was celebrated as a divine sign by the Vaticine Church. The war against Montaigne has also slowed; a ceasefire has been signed. On the surface, Castille now shines with a renewed brilliance.

But behind this bright facade, the reality is darker. Peace with Montaigne has not healed the country’s wounds, which remains fragile. At the same time, religious power is fractured: Cardinal Verdugo, now Hierophant, is weakened and isolated, while the Inquisition is now led by an even more ruthless authority. Today, Castille is a kingdom undermined from within by power struggles, purges, and religious fervor.

It is not wise to linger in Vaticine City these days. So, if you are ready, let’s retrieve our treasure and set sail quickly.

🎁 FIRST UNLOCKED STRETCH GOAL: A PDF CAMPAIGN!​

We are offering all backers a PDF of a four-episode campaign (about 50 pages) to get you started with the new edition. It's the first gift of this campaign! We hope to offer an expanded version very soon.
 

The 3rd Edition System in brief (quoting the Studio Agate Design Team):

"The core idea is simple: dice are only rolled when failure would lead to an interesting consequence. If failing an action wouldn’t meaningfully change anything, then the action simply succeeds. And when a roll is called for, resolution is just as straightforward. This is where you’ll recognize some Roll & Keep DNA: the player builds a pool of d10s by adding a Trait and a Skill, the GM sets a Difficulty, and after the roll, you keep the dice that meet the required threshold, those are your successes. If you have enough successes, the action succeeds. That’s it!
The system also includes several heroic tools to push the action even further. Heroism Points can improve your odds, activate advantages, or let you pull off truly legendary feats. And even on a failed roll, you can choose to tempt fate: the action still succeeds, but the GM gains resources that can be used to create complications later on...
