A blind PC

Another case of incurable blindness: my (low-level) elven archer was hit with a blindness spell while we were stuck out in the frozen wilderness. The only available cure for it was from an orcish shaman, but Gruumsh demanded his left eye as payment. It can't be regenerated or healed because a god is using it to play marbles. *sigh*

You let an orcish shaman of gruumsh tend to you? You're a disgrace to the People. Report to a cleric of Corellon right away, to learn how you can atone for that!

I agree the rogue would lose a lot. Fighter would be easiest, but its too cliche.

The character could not make out any furniture or anything could he. Is his blindsight as good as normal sight. Can he like know there is a book on the bench, without touching it?

What about a animal companion. Like a trained dog, that follows him, and leads him around. And at least fools people to thinking he's completely blind.

Is scent a skill or a feat?

It says in the MM that you don't have to make spot checks to see something. I dunno that i agree with that. I think you'd have to make a spot check to kinda notice something that you might shrug off or ignore.

And i like knowledge, at least for backround purposes.

With blindsight, what can you actually see?

Can you see the wall, can you see the sword coming for you?
What detail can you see? For you to be able to fight the same as a sighted person, it mustnt' be too bad.

It depends on what senses your Blindsight uses. If Blindsight is sensitive to vibration, then you can "see" anything that moves, but nothing else. If your Blindsight is sensitive to sound, then you "see" anything that anything that creates sound, even a rogue trying to move silently (There is no opposed roll. The rogue simply loses).

Standard Blindsight is sensitive to hearing, sound, and vibration, thus the ability is useful in all situations. In the case of a blind PC, I would give Blindsight based on sound.

It's a feat in MotW.

That's right, and I know where you're going with this. See first answer.

Unless otherwise stated, everything, but you can't distinguish color or visual contrast, nor can you read using Blindsight. Quite simply, Blindsight allows you to "see" when/what you otherwise could not.

Gotta LOVE that idea. Get your seeing-eye dire bear today! :D

Hmmm, a blind druid, I like that idea. Perhaps one who sees while wilshaped, but is blind with blindsight when not whildshaped.

Scent is a feat, but one house rule that's been suggested is to have a Smell skill, that works like Spot or Listen but is based on sense of smell. This skill would let the character recognize familiar people, recognize types of animals, and lots of other stuff like that, based on DC checks.

yeah, thats what i was kind of looking at.

I'll think i'll get my DM to allow sound, and vibrations. Still useful, but at the same time, i'l still very blind.

How much would you say it would cost to train an seeing animal?

What about a horse, that needs minimal direction?
