A Clash of Earth and Sea (El Jefe Judging) [See Part II]

I won't assign Iggy his 2 new spells, since I don't know how he'd pick them up around here.

Please allow me to overrule you on that one. Per the rules as written, Iggy is entitled to his new spells as the fruit of his continuing research. In other words, he's been working on them for quite some time, and is now perfecting them rather than drawing them out of thin air. Your additional experience has allowed you to finally grasp exactly how you misunderstood Fistandantalus's 3rd law of Arcane Manipulation, which was all that stood in your way for mastering those two spells. :)

You haven't even touched the begining of this adventure yet, and it would be a bad precedent to set at this point if you limited Iggy in this way. You may gain another couple of levels before we're done, and I don't want Iggy to be unable to use 3rd level spells next time he levels up simply because he has none in his book.

And when I say you have barely started.... did I mention this is a dungeon crawl? Please note you haven't found the dungeon yet. :)

OOC: Considering that we already have knowledge of ridiculously large number of (semi-)intelligent creatures in rather close vicinity to murder, I had kinda hoped for that. :D

Yeah! Kill things and take their stuff!

OOC: I've leveled Iggy up - just waiting for approval.

IC: Iggy relates the party's adventures to the humans in the enclave. "These stonebirdmen are very powerul. Almost immune to normal weapons. They appear to be called gargoyles. They gave us a drubbing, I fear, and that was just two of them. We did learn a lot from that combat, though, and they won't catch us unprepared again. I hope you don't mind if we spend a day or two here recuperating. I have some studying to do in my books. Then we'll head out to have another go at them. Has anything happened here in our absense? Any sign of the merrow?"

OoC: I think it's refreshing to have a fight you can't/aren't likely to win. Though I note that Rodimus has had possibly a few too many ;)
The gargoyle battle was great. Lots of feelings and inter-party tension, I'm expecting a nice hate-(respect-for-skills-at-arms) relations ship between Zack and Sara (who have uncannily similar looks).

Once the pursuit has died off, Sara spends some of the trip shadow sparing with her swords, occasionally flipping and twirling them but also doing twin stabs. By the time the group reaches the village, her spirits have returned to their normal obnoxiously high level.

"You know, I think that fight was good for me. Normally I just concentrate on hitting things as much as possible and just assume hurting them will come with the pointy bits. But with those things I really needed to be hitting them solid, not just hitting them...." She continues her drill, expereimenting with putting a little twist at the end of each thrust for an extra burst of power. "Hey, Duncane!" she suddenly remembers, "You got wacked with Iggy's magic, what did that feel like? I've never had a spell cast on me.... well, unless you count the time the pally-whatsit tried to tell if I was eeeevil or not. Think I fooled him though." She winks over at Iggy.

"Ducane. And I think I mostly felt sleepy. I had my attention diverted a bit elsewhere at the moment though. Frankly, I'm more annoyed that I let it affect me. I suppose I shouldn't be, as I wasn't the only one affected, and the spell would be pretty pointless if anybody could just resist it., Ducane responds.

"But anyways, I'm looking forward to a rematch with them. Though preferably with whatever spell it is that makes the swords able to hurt them. Those two would have been so dead if we could've hurt them."

OOC: Ducane updated and waiting for approval.

"huh, that sounds kinda boring. I always thought being wacked with magic would be more interesting. I guess I'll leave it to the bad guys then...."

ooc: Sara is improved and approved.

OOC: Assuming our next battle is still planned against the gargoyles...

After some rest & study, Iggy convenes a meeting. "OK, guys. Let's figure out a plan of action. Everyone up for having another shot at those gargoyles? It's dangerous yes, but I can't wait to get back out there & show them what we can do."

"I figure I'll prepare another color spray spell, but this time with a bigger cone. Hopefully I can catch several right off the bat, before they reach us. I'll also have more fire and magic missiles to wear them down. I can prepare magic weapon spells, myself, at the expense of other offensive spells. My spell lasts 4 minutes. I'll probably prepare one of those. Charlarn, you can do a couple too, eh? Sara, perhaps you should use a single bigger weapon. I'd hate to have to expend two such spells for your two swords. Would you consider this option?"

OoC: Zack upped and approved

IC: Zack nods when Ignatious asks if they're up to take on the gargoyles on again.
"Four minutes.... That means the spell most likely lasts a single combat, two if we're lucky," he grimly notes.

"They seemed to have those two we fought on a patrol or something. They might have more people on guard now, so we'll have to be even more careful. I suppose we'll fight one of those patrols first again, though they probably have reinforcements ready. We can always try to retreat back here again. I just wonder how many of those things there are there.", Ducane says.

"If Iggy can catch and affect them with the cone spell, I suppose we can save spells by just casting it on one weapon, and the rest of us pile on the other one. Supposing we only encounter two, that is. Oh well, we'll see. Plans don't tend to last in combat anyway. But I think you should prepare as many of those spells as you can, just in case."

OOC: Ducane is approved. Couldn't Iggy make a scroll or two? Though I suppose we should have enough spells and that would delay us I think. And I don't think you can Enlarge a cone spell, since they have fixed range.
