Does anyone know if there are any rules stopping me from playing a cleric, taking the magic initiate feat with Find Familiar as my 1/day spell, and using it (the familiar) to cast Cure/Inflict wounds through it's touch ability?

Perfectly legal by the rules as far as I can tell and perhaps even nicely thematic if your Clerics domain is Arcana or Knowledge, not that it's a necessity.

Can you have your familiar be a St Bernard? :)

Not that it particularly matters, but what type of cleric are you? I'm a big fan of going Arcana cleric and grabbing Ritual Casting (Wizard), which is effectively the same plus some, especially since the Arcana cleric gains two wizard cantrips via Arcane Initiate.

Ritual Casting, now THAT'S a good idea! I'm actually starting an adventure with a new group, so I haven't quite decided yet.
I threw together a life cleric in a one-off recently and had a lot of fun with that, but I still have to read through some more domains.

FIGHTER: "The Barbarian is in trouble. Go help him."

CLERIC: "He still hasn't washed yet, has he?"

FIGHTER: "No, but that's not important. He's bleeding. Hurry up."

CLERIC: "Hey, Hctib, I've got a job for you!" (calls over familiar)

FAMILIAR: "Sometimes I miss working for that Warlock."
