A Cool Incident From Our Playtest

Pushing, pulling and grabbing doesn't provoke attacks of opportunity because it would make all those movement powers way to strong. Personally I like think it is ok, because otherwise one couldn't have abilities that forced movement. I really like the thought of pulling, sliding and pushing opponents around. (and monsters doing the same)
Also: It's more about being blown away, dragged around - everything on a rather fast speed. Not very much time to react. At least I usually imagined it as being shoved/hurled and so on.

Cheers, LT.

Sounds like a fun moment, but since it's a playtest: I don't think the peasants should have gotten opportunity attacks since the warcaster's movement was forced.

I'm sorry, The Awesome(tm) is blocking my view of the rules. ;)

Very cool story.

I am wondering though, we know environmental hazards can affect people when they are being slid about. So what if PCs/NPCs could become "environmental hazards" for example, readying your spear incase someone crashes into it and becomes impaled or placing your shield up so someone crashes into it and falls.

It does make sense that you could, for instance, bull-rush someone onto your handy nearby phalanx of spearmen who are all set for a charge. In that case, prolly go with the save mechanic to hit the deck before you collide with them, otherwise give everyone in melee range a free immediate basic attack.

Also, to my knowledge, with what has been released thus far, Cause Fear doesn't technically fall under the heading of 'forced movement.' I understand that you are, in fact, forcing someone to move, but the information that we have is that 'forced movement' is restricted to pushing, pulling, or sliding someone. Does it make sense? Not really. But that's what we've been given.

As far as I know, cause fear isn't forced movement, in that you direct the enemy on a certain path. On the creature's turn, it chooses to run away from you. It can run on the safest course possible, but it must run away from you. And since this movement is done by the creature normally, it provokes OAs normally.

Ahh, the Warlocks' power doesn't say if it causes AoOs, but it describes the target as wandering in a hallucinatory trance, which seemed to me to make one a suitable target of AoOs.

But I'd probably have ignored the rule and done it anyway just because it was cool.

Maybe that'll be the 2010 campaign: Astral Jamming, a mix of SJ and Planescape. I'll avoid it if so ;-) (if they want a real winner campaign that won't sell, they could add Ghost Walk to the mix). Not my cup of tea but I bet some people would like it. I just don't think it has a large enough audience.

No no no guys -- it's in the rules! The peasants' hero titles *must* be revoked!

It's obvious; the Russian DM was bribed. Their medals must be revoked and they're *not* getting their pictures on the Wheaties box.
