A couple combat questions...

First Post
Greetings once again all,

I have 2 questions for you guys:
1.) What's so great about the wounding ability for weapons? If you hit it does 1 pt of con damage. If it were 1 pt per attack I would assume it would be a higher modifier to buy it, and if it doesn't, what's so great about the 1 pt that doesn't stack? Explaination would be nice :)

2.) If your prone, can someone preform sneak attacks on you?

Thanks a bunch,

1) Doing Con damage can be pretty nasty. Hit something with 18 HD twice with that weapon, causing him to lose 2 points of Con, and he's also down 18 hit points due to the shift in Con bonus besides the regular weapon damage.
So why isn't it worth more? +2 is pretty costly to begin with. And, in general, how many fights are the PCs going to get into that will be long enough for this to be a huge factor? Not that many. A moderate factor, yes, so probably worth a +2.

2) Sneak attack a prone character? Not specifically because the character is prone, but if any other reasons hold to allow for sneak attacks (loss of Dex bonus, flanking), then the sneak attack would apply. It's not the prone condition that causes a sneak attack to be possible, but I don't believe it prevents other conditions from making that a possibility.

Doh! Too slow!

Ok, quick quick version...

1) The Con damage stacks, so it's a good enchantment.
2) No, you don't loose your Dex bonus when youare prone.

As others have noted, it's con damage. Damage always stacks. At mid levels, Wounding isn't so great an ability. But at mid to high levels, it's a fantastic ability. Consider Holy vs. Wounding against a 20 HD creature. Every 2 attacks, Holy deals 4d6 damage (average 14). For the same 2 attacks, Wounding deals 20 points of damage. And the damage from Wounding can't be healed with ordinary healing. Quite nasty.

billd91 has it. Not because of being prone, though other conditions may apply while you are also prone, that would allow sneak attacks. Which is to say that being prone doesn't, in itself, render you vulnerable to sneak attacks, but it doesn't prevent them either.

Aha! That makes things more interesting then. Our DM said that wounding only went through once. So if you hit a mob with a wounding weapon 3x then it would still only do 1 con damage. (So the max you could do is -2con with 2weapon fighting). That makes things alot more interesting. :)

Thanks bunches :)
