I started the free City of Heroes trial from PC gamer. I have a couple of questions about it.
Whats the level cap? How do you learn to fly? How is it for soloing? does it have instencing?

Its been a while since I've played CoH, but I'll give these a shot...

1. Um...sad that I don't remember this one. I want to say 40, but could be very wrong.

2. Its a skill you can pick up at level...14, I believe. Or at least, a lesser version at 14 and then a faster version not too long after.

3. Depends on the class. I pretty much only played an Ice Blaster, and when you know your limits, soloing isn't bad at all.

4. Yep. All of the missions that go into buildings are instances.

High enough that you don't need to worry about it for a few months (and that's assuming you have no life but COH. I actually cancelled my account a number of weeks ago because I wasn't playing it anymore but...
How do you learn to fly?
Well as you advance in levels you gain access to a few additional power pools which feature a few travel powers. The four types are running/jumping/flying/teleporting. You generally will want/need to choose a weaker version of your desired mode of travel before being able to get the really good version of it a number of levels later. I believe it's 8th level (? might be 6th) that you get to choose your first (weak version) travel power from a new power pool. And 12th (? or 14th) is when you would get to choose your second (superior) travel power from that same pool.
How is it for soloing?
Pretty good actually, but no matter what kind of character you choose you WILL find missions that you simply will not be able to solo. Fortunately, pick-up teams are exceptionally easy to put together to get you past them.
does it have instencing?
The majority of missions you recieve from contacts are instanced.

The Man in the Hat has got you covered. The level cap is 50. Flying is a special power pool that all archetypes can get, but you have to get to level 14 and have Hover or Air Superiority (a big two handed punch) before you can get Fly. If you want to solo, a scrapper is probably the best bet, although blasters are good at it too but a lot more fragile. And Ive solod my tanker quite a bit as well, but that may be why Im still only 30th level after a year of play :) And almost all missions are instances, from inside buildings, to in the sewers, to entire city neighboorhoods spawned just for your mission (it can be wierd when you go into a building and end up in a new city, but Ive only had that happen once or twice hehe) What server are you playing on?

Soloing....

A ENG/ENG blaster is a pretty good solo pick. As are most scrappers with the invulnerability secondary.

The problem with blasters is that around level 35-40 it becomes much harder to solo.

Note: being in a group requires very different tactics from soloing. I know you said you wanted to solo, but if you ever join in a group, you won't be able to play the same way as you did when you were solo. Groups make for great experience gains, but you only need one or two idiots to screw up a group. That's why I tend to group with my defender. At least that way, I know that if things screw up, at least I'm going to be one of the last to die.
