I started the free City of Heroes trial from PC gamer. I have a couple of questions about it.
Whats the level cap? How do you learn to fly? How is it for soloing? does it have instencing?

Just in case you haven't found out yet.

You get flight at 16th, but you can get Hover (slow slow defence-buff flight) earlier than that.

Most of what I did (too much, partly why I quit) was solo work. Depending on your character build you will be better or worse. As you get up past 30'ish you're going to notice it gets harder as well, period.

I know you can get to 50, but I've been away long enough that this could have been bumped to 60th by now. I seem to remember something about that when I went back for a month or so, which was realy just a week and a half or thereabouts, but quit again when I just couldn't seem to find anyone to group with.

Actually you can get your main movement power at 14th level but you must take a prerequisite before that. You can take the prerequisite for flight, hover for example, as early as 6th level.

The level cap is still at 50th. As for soloing you can do it but depending on what archetype you pick you have to be careful. Tanks and scrappers are the easiest to solo with for the most part, but everyone has different opinions on this.

There are no instancing missions yet but they are coming, or so they say.

Around 25th or so you start getting what they call instanced outdoor missions, where you have an outside area to roam in, a limited bit of city or wilderness. In the sense of 'a mission where other people can't interfere in it', then all door missions are instanced and those are the vast majority of what you get from your first mission onwards. They're just like instanced dungeons in WoW. Some are hunting missions, the 'arrest n gang members' type; those occur in the city at large.

At 6th you open up 'pool powers' which are minor powers you can take to customize your hero a bit. Among those are the travel powers: Flight, Speed, Teleport and Jumping. At either 6, 8, 10 or 12 you can choose one of two minor powers from those. 'Hover' or 'Air Superiority' in Flight, for instance.

At 14th you get your 'travel power'. You can take Fly, Teleport, Superspeed or Super Jumping.

OK, I've quit the game due to the nerfageddon, but these are easy enough.

A) Level cap is 50. The lead developer has been saying repeatedly that there are no plans to raise it in the foreseeable future.

B) You take the flight pool and then take either hover or air superiority somewhere between level 6 and 12. Then at 14 you take take flight. Fair warning on flight however, it is the slowest travel power by a fair margin. Only with heavy slotting does it really become acceptable. You will need to have it four slotted to really enjoy it. It is the most convenient one though.

C) The game ranges from medium to cakewalk in soloing. This depends on the AT you pick. Until you hit the 40s, there should be almost no missions you are unable to solo (except for a minimal amount which require simultaneous disarming of bombs and such stuff). The game has a difficulty slider which can be adjusted. If you keep your setting down on hero, you should be able to solo with about any archetype. If you wish to solo on the higher settings you might have to pick a more solo friendly AT such as scrappers, tankers, or offenders (offensively build defenders). Controllers also become incredible soloers after level 32.

D) All missions are instanced except hunting ones. They can be door missions, which involve one of a fair number of interior designs, or train missions which are set in outdoor locales. There are also portal missions at high level (40+) which can be indoor or outdoor depending on the mission.

It's a fun game, though a bit lacking in depth I suppose. However it doesn't waste your time like other MMOs. It's all about doing missions, fighting and moving through story lines (though you can street hunt if you prefer). I started my MMO career with this game and was unable to tolerate the tedium of WoW when I tried it. The contrast between travel powers in CoH and the pathetic running speed in WoW drove me nuts.
