A couple of quick rule questions.

After playing through a combat tonight, a couple of questions came up:

1) Is there any penalty if a character is attempting to use a spell power, provokes an Attack of Opportunity, and takes damage? The rules mention a penalty if the character is dropped to zero HP, but is there a need for a saving throw to see if the spell power fails?

2) Is there a penalty or chance of 'spell failure' in 4E if a Wizard/Warlock uses spell powers while wearing armor?

Thanks!

:1: No, with a caveat.

If the ability that hits them is an interrupt, or would cause a change in the scenario that would prevent the spell from being able to be cast, then it cannot be cast. (And the spell, AFAIK, is wasted)

:2: No. If they are wearing armour, (Wether or not they are proficient) there is no penalty to casting.

What are you talking about? Where did you find that rule?

Fair enough ... I was thinking recently about OAs that can push (whether with tide of iron+heavy blade opportunity or a thundering weapon)
So I guess you can also push a wizard off a cliff so (after falling) his target is now out of range .. but generally speaking, conscious wizard continues casting.

One of the (not very) surprising things about 4e is how much help being a MTG player and onetime judge is. 4e enshrines the stack, in ways 3.x never really did.

Anyway, that is why I said a caveat.. it won't happen often, but it can happen. Its not so much the pushing off a cliff, as the stunning, or dazing after moving, etc.

This should read "if the ability that hits them is an interrupt, and would cause a change..."

That's why people were confused.
