A d20 NPC Wiki?

Is anyone conversant with how the wiki license works? Is it just some variant of the GPL?

The problem lies, I beleive, in that you can't further restrict what is under OGL. It might be possible to finagle it such that both licenses are simultaneously satisfied, but you might run into trouble if doing so somehow restricts further use of the material. And it would probably mean no PI, as that wouldn't be copyleftable by another license.

I don't know a thing about the GPL. I understand the OGL, though.

And no PI is A-OK with me. 100% OGC is cool. I just keep thinking how nice it'd be if I could link this oddball NPC to a new template...or a feat...or a monster...

A new template, one created by you? You certainly can do that. What you should not do in the wiki is copy/paste a chunk of copyright text, like a Feat description, whether it's from the SRD or somewhere else.

But not with the OGL, which would be my preference.

I guess in a perfect world I'd like to see the wiki using the OGL, and under the S.15 just say something like "d20 NPC Wiki". If contributors add their name to the bottom of their submissions, you can require people using the material to add those names to the S.15 (a la Necromancer Games, the Tome of Horrors, and monster names).

Not a huge thing, just an "I wish".

I think having an OGL d20 Wiki would be far more problematic than the current setup.

For then you'd have to make sure that every new entry adheres to the terms of the Open Gaming Licence - and that would be far too much hassle.

An OGL Wiki probably could be done. But only one where you have to log in, and where you are required to read through the entire OGL and an associated FAQ before you can get your password...

My thanks to PsiSeveredhead for posting the link to Wiki editing protocols. I didn't like the bland look of my pages, but I have never worked on a Wiki before and didn't know how to spruce them up.

I've since gone through and formatted all 18 of my entries.

Thanks!

The good news is WotC seems a LOT less draconian the TSR was back in the day. If I was WotC I don't think I would this particular project that threatening. That might just be me though. :D
