A d20 NPC Wiki?

I think it's a grand idea - another useful method of categorizing them would be to decide on a set of archetype labels, and use those. Say, "tank," "skirmisher," "healer," "summoner," and so on. Since you can stretch the classes so much, that'd probably be more useful than being able to sort just by class.

I might have missed this boat (what with the talk about wikicities and all), but if anyone wants some wikispace that can be used without worrying about the licensing requirements, I've set aside a little namespace for this idea over at http://wiki.greywulf.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl/NPCdb/HomePage. I donate it free, gratis for your use, if you want it.

There's the barest of content up there, please feel free to fiddle, amend and play with as you want. I think it's a terrific idea!

Just to throw another place into the list we could use if needed is here:

http://www.elfshadow.net/d20NPC/

It is also using MediaWiki. This is on a server I use for some other hosting too. I put the two examples up like greywulf did just for comparison and point of reference.

I think this is great idea, no matter where it is hosted.

Well, I also got a positive response from Wikicities by now - they only weren't sure about the domain name I proposed ("d20npcs"). Hopefully I will get another response later this day.

We should also come up with some sort of "standard template" for the entries - while the stat blocks themselves should follow the examples given in the DMG, we should also give some guidelines on what else could or should be mentioned...

Here's my proposal for structuring the entry:

- Name (should be fairly generic, but descriptive - "CR2 Street Thug")
- Material used: Such as the EXP, any of the "Complete" Books, and so on. Page numbers would also be useful. Can be omitted if no rules beyond the Core Books are being used.
- The stat block
- Combat Tactics (Optional) - what they are likely to do in each round of combat, etc.
- Personal Experiences (Optional): If you used them in your own adventures, how did they fare in them?

"War stories" are acceptable as a way of making the entry more interesting. Besides, more people will come to it (and possibly include some stuff on their own) if they find some great quotes there... ;-)

Maybe people could just include whatever they feel like? Most of my NPCs aren't in DMG stat block format.

BTW here's the form I use for non-rules-stuff for detailed characters, eg PCs:
Character Name:
Rank/Position/Concept:
Sex:
Species:
Homeland:
Age:
Height: (feet & inches)
Weight: (lbs. D&D: minimum at ST 16 is 125 lbs, ST 17 150 lbs, ST 18 180 lbs, ST 19 210 lbs, ST 20 250 lbs)
Colour of - Hair: - Eyes: - Skin:
Appearance: (eg handsome, ugly, fat, voluptuous, imposing)
Clothing: (eg shirt, loincloth, tunic, long dress)
Demeanour: (eg grim, cheerful, studious)
Motivations: (what brings them to the area, what general goals in life are)
Background: (history and social standing - noble, slave, mercenary et al)

And here's the Quick NPC Form:

Name:
Race/gender:
Alignment (if used):
Class/level (and Divine Status, if any):
Languages:
Physical Description:
Decent skills (rnks=lvl):
Good skills (rnks=lvl+3):
Good attributes (+2, or better as noted):
Relevant Feats:
Hit Points (lvl x ½HD +CON):
Combat stats:
BAB: (1x / ¾x / ½x lvl):
Good Saves (Level/2,+2):
Poor Saves (Level/3):
AC (armour):
Speed:
Melee atk&dmg:
Ranged atk& dmg:
Special Equipment (suggest "+" 1 per 4 character levels for best item, 1 per 6 for lesser items, eg at 22nd level would have a +5 primary item and +3 secondaries)
