BTW, most people liked the artwork in the AGoT book from what I recall.
It certainly isn't *bad*. You probably havn't really seen some of the bad art out there.

To the company, maybe not. To the various creators (writers and artists and editors) who worked like direwolves to get it done, it might well mean something.

Hey, I ran a one-man corporation (non-gaming related) that went bankrupt years ago and I still managed to fill my customers orders and pay off my freelance help AND get started again. Because I didn't stiff anyone except the stupid credit card companies (who were back extending me credit again a few months later, LOL), I was able to jump right back in with the same customer base and freelance help ready and willing to support me. Why? Because I handled the situation with integrity, honesty and respect. I didn't promise the moon, then disappear. I never took six months to a year to ship preorders! I didn't keep taking money and not ship orders. If I promised my customers or freelancers something, I damn well delivered. If I screwed up, I made it right somehow, even if it hurt or inconvenienced me. That's the difference between a creep and a man of integrity, IMO. YMMV.

Letting Mark off the hook, or making excuses for him being an incompetent businessman who lied and cheated his way into oblivion is insanity. Regardless of his original intent, which probably was not to rip anyone off, the result is the same. He ripped people off. I find that inexcusable--he should have apologized and offered some kind of compensation (such as additional free pdfs which cost him nothing to ship) if he couldn't pay to print the AGOT bonus gifts. Instead, we got nothing but lies, broken promises and silence, which is tantamount to Mark slapping his customers in the face!

The anime art I refer to was in most of the "iconic" character class art. It was mostly decent but inappropriate to AGOT. The rest of it--the paintings--were embarassingly bad to mediocre. I would never pay anyone a penny for them and hate having them in the book. They're ugly and useless. As to not knowing what terrible RPG art looks like, I've seen plenty of it in every ENWorld product, LOL.

Man...I guess "tastes differ" is as true today as ever.

Here is a picture I particularly love from the book, it's one of the 2 page paintings you mention. Sir Loras Tyrell jousting...

I agree that is one of the best pieces of art in AGOT; however, it's obviously very staged and "posey" looking. It lacks the proper sense of motion a more experienced artist would have given it. Plus, the horse on the left is making a stupid face and I don't think its body is sized correctly.
