Mycha (Dayne) Redfort

ladytalbotafter1460.JPG

Mycha Redfort is a cute, intelligent, young woman who is far too serious than any 13 year old has a right to be. Perhaps because of the early death of her natural father Rodderic Dayne in the War of the Usurper (fighting on the side of the Targaryens), her early exposure to courtly intrige, a talent for understanding the political world of Westeros, and a superior intellect have caused young Mycha to reject the folly's of childhood in favor of study. She is know to spend hours studying alone in the Redfort library or in deep philisophical conversations with Maester Brandon, the Redfort House Maester. When forced to perform as a Lady; whether it be needlework, singing (she has a beautiful voice), or entertaining, Mycha does the task efficiently, effectively, and as quickly as possible - and moves on. Her motivation to learn seems to stem equally from a feeling of powerlessness as tentative member of the Redfort household and an obscessive desire to know "why?"

Mycha is concerned that her future is so tenious, as a stranger in a strange House, in a stranger land. While she privately pines for Starfall, ancesteral home of the Daynes, she also longs to be accepted at Redfort. She dreads being traded as an object in the Game of Thrones (a political marrage) and actively seeks an alternative, preferably as a player herself. Her stepfather jokes (only partly) that this is her Dornish blood speaking.

Mycha knows a great deal about history, healing (possibly from patching up Maester Brandon after his fights), and legends. Observers will note that she has a dangerous attraction to mysteries of all kinds and the supernatural in particular.

Maester Brandon "the Brawler"

Brandon towers over lesser men, standing closer to seven feet than to six and weighing over 250 pounds. He has cold blue eyes and thick black hair, as well as an impressive, if often ale-soaked beard. He wears the robes and chain of his order and carries only a simple eating knife on his belt. His voluminous sleeves conceal many items, including writing supplies, healing tools, and various poisons. He also conceals a small flask of wine.

Brandon comes from the North, from the lands of House Umber where the blood of the First Men, and giants, flows in the people's veins. Brandon is a boisterous, often-drunk mountain of a man. Despite outward appearances, he also has a keen mind, a great love of history, and knows a little bit about pretty much any subject. Brandon also has made a reputation for himself as a skilled healer.

Creighton Redfort

Creighton Redfort

Creighton is the 2nd son of Lord Horton Redfort, being 3 years younger than Jasper, his older brother and heir to his father’s land and station.

Blessed with a sharp wit as well as natural athletic and scholarly ability, his lack of focus and resentment when compared to his older and more accomplished brother, has lead him to abandon most of his studies and fail in many of the duties he has been given by his father and tutors. These failures have further stoked the fires of his rebellious spirit making him a challenge at even the best of times.

The loss of his mother hit Creighton hard as she was one of the few people he listened to. So when his father announced his decision to take a new wife, Creighton viewed it as an act of betrayal, and the new members of the household as little more than thieves come to take his inheritance and place in his father’s heart.

Dec 20 Update
Here is some additional information regarding Creighton. These are based of the questionaire that was posted earlier.

How would your character’s family describe the character?
Creighton is a headstrong and willfull young man who fails to acknowledge his duties or appreciate his position as the second son of House Redfort.

Name three of your character’s fears: one each from youth, the present, and the future.
When he was a child, Creighton was often frightened into doing something by telling him that if he didn’t, grumkins and snarks (who were the same as clansmen of the mountains) would come to take him away. Today, he is relatively fearless believing himself to be able to do anything he wants. But hidden away is a fear of being made to look like a fool.

What emotions does your character not reveal in public?
Doubt, uncertainty and the growing fear that his inability to excel at anything his father finds worthwhile will eventually cause his father to send him away from Redfort.

Who does your character look to for inspiration? Guidance?
He has great respect and love for Jasper (older brother) who has been able to accomplish almost everything that his father tells him to do.

Describe your character’s bedroom.
Littered, unkept and generally a mess. Half finished projects (partially carved wood, partially finished books & lessons, and tarnished weapons in great need of polishing) lay scattered across his desk and floor. The servants may attempt to keep the room clean, but Creighton takes pleasure in hiding his messes from view and oftentimes orders them to leave his possessions where they are.

Describe your character’s first love or crush.
Hasn’t happened yet. Girls are nothing but trouble, although certain women are causing him to shift uncomfortably when he is near them.

Do “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one?”
The needs of the many may outweigh the needs of others, but the needs of the many do not outweigh the needs of me.

Who is your character’s best friend? Describe him or her.
Creighton’s best (and probably only) friend is Josef Costen, son of Captain Costen who leads Lord Redforts giards here at the castle. Josef is a tall, strong and serious lad who is often given the dubious task of watching over Creighton and stopping him from getting into mischeif.

What is your character’s heart’s desire?
To accomplish something sooooo inspiring that his father acknowledges it to the entire court.

What does your character think of lies?
Use them if you can get away with it and if it will get you out of trouble. But you shouldn't use them all the time. That's a guarunteed way to get caught.

How does your character think he or she will die?
I’m 15 years old … I’m invincible and will live forever. Worrying about death is something old people do.

Rhin Snow, bastard son of Lord Rickard Karstark
[imager]http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/8521/rhin8ek.jpg[/imager] Were it not for his name, or the ever-present murmur of gossip spreading news throughout Westeros, one would simply think that Rhin was a Braavosi sellsword who somehow made his way to House Redfort in the Vale. He stands passing tall, and lean, dark-haired and eyed, looking every inch a Braavosi knave. But that name, Snow -- a bastard of the North.

Little is known of Rhin and just why he is being fostered in Jon Arryn's territory. It is simply understood that Lord Karstark became highly upset at Rhin recently, sometime near the boy's seventeenth name day, and sent him in a rage to be fostered at House Arryn, which dutifully passed the boy down to House Redfort.

Rhin is sparring or reading, always. He has a surly, knavish attitude that most attribute to his half Braavosi heritage.

Melyssa Redfort

Melyssa Redfort is the only daughter of Lord Horton Redfort's first wife. Of all of Lord Horton's children, she was the closest to her mother, and the one most affected by her death. Ever since her mother's passing, Melyssa has been a recluce, speaking to nobody unless spoken to, always playing by herself and quietly sitting at the corner of the room doing her needlework. Anyone who chances upon her finished works will note the emblem of House Pryor that is always apparent in her embroidery. She still writes to relatives of her mother's House, in many ways she is more a Pryor than she is a Redfort.

Melyssa is a quiet, intensely solemn girl, dutiful and diligent at her studies and chores, but always keeping to herself, though she has in recent years developed a strong rapport with the Redfort household staff. She has long dark hair and huge dark eyes, and is small even for her age, yet she carries herself with a certain grace, belying her Andal ancestry. Her large soulful eyes and prominent ears, in contrast with her small pursed lips give the impression of a person who sees and hears more than she says.

Melyssa has designed her own personal arms, which she often displays on a pink travelling cloak she sewed herself: the red castle of Redfort within the eclipse of Pryor. Interestingly, the reverse side of the cloak is black with no motif.

Jasper Redfort

If there ever was a rumor that the blood of the first men flows through the veins of the Redforts, Jasper is there to prove it. Standing six feet tall, with a solid frame, bright green eyes and wavy dark hair, and a strong voice and demeanor to match, Jasper is looks very much the part of northern noble. He is a stout combatant, and dedicated to his house and his family, loyal and honorable as a Vale knight should be.

Jasper has a high sense of personal honor, which at times can make him seem a bit dull or too straightforward. However, he is a loving brother and a dedicated son. While he misses his mother greatly, he does his best to be polite towards his father's new wife, and also her children. However, he is a man grown, and will not bestow the title of “mother” upon a new woman, though he has attempted to encourage his siblings to do so.

Among the household, Jasper is treated as what he is: Horton's heir and favorite son. While he only very rarely struts, brags or dominates among his father's men, he is proud of what he is. Soon, he will be a knight, and he is proud of the achievement, and claims – as his father has claimed to him – that Bronze Yohn Royce or even Lord Arryn will bestow on him the title. However, it is pride, not arrogance or haughtiness that shines in his eyes when he tells others of what he will become and how. The same pride that shines when he speaks about his siblings and their achievements.

Horton Redfort and his first son have a very close relationship. Jasper is his heir, and ever since he could understand words, Lord Redfort has taught him how to rule his lands and his people as a protector and peacekeeper. However, Jasper often thinks his father devotes too much time to him, and too little to his other sons, and has even told him so on several occasions. When his father won't listen, he tries his best to teach his siblings what his father has taught him, though he often struggles with the task, since he is not comfortable of assuming the role of father and mentor towards them.

OoC: Couldn't find a single useable picture anywhere. I looked for an hour, man. :(

Ser Rycen McFaddyn

A native son of Redfort, Rycen is newly returned to the Vale after spending the years following the War of the Usurper in the court of House Blackwood. He is dutiful and reserved, quietly going about his business without presumption or arrogance.

Rycen is of slender build and ordinary height. He is deceptively strong and light on his feet however, and enjoys challenging larger men in the practice yard, where he can frequently be found. He also enjoys a stout pint of ale, and has a reputation for overdrinking, fighting and womanizing when he is off-duty.
