D&D 5E A Glimpse Of High-Level Play

yeah them feels. awesome adventure, cant top that at all. But My necromancer Nihilum was once in an area covered in necrotic essence and fell into a hole with a nothic. dropped down to one hp while fighting it. a good barry spell landed on a crit and pretty much just revived me, the dm deemed it to be too awesome that a gnome druid got a crit while throwing down good barrys to the party for it not to land in my mouth. then i had a fighter shield me and a half orc barbarian own it to death. the fight was epic and i took the nothic's eye and am currently trying to make it into a weapon. Kind of like a shrunken head but in eyeball form lol

I'm so jealous. I wished I could be involved in some high level play. The one group i'm able to play in is level 3. We found a Green Dragon CR 8 which killed us all and now are restarting level 3. Soooo slow.

Tonight, we finally got back to gaming after a few weeks of vacation. It wasn't the greatest session from any objective standpoint, but it was a little slice of off-the-wall zaniness. Examples:

The wizard bargained with a circus master to buy a dire elephant, then tried to get his animated ghoul-knight to ride it. They had to polymorph the dire elephant into a sloth to prevent it from rampaging through the camp. The sorceress then managed to mollify the confused animal and befriend it.

The PCs sawed off the elf bard's head so they could remove the lich's collar, then used revivify to re-attach her head and bring her back to life.

The rogue then put said collar on a pig. Suspicious that the lich would be able to control whoever wore the collar, he proceeded to get the pig drunk, then commissioned a set of pig-cuffs from the local blacksmith.

So... yeah. Plenty of laughter. Not sure what to make of it, but everyone had a good time, and by the end of it, the party had a direction vaguely related back to the ongoing plot. :)

Quote of the game, from the warlock: "I've decided that my most damaging spell is dimension door, because it lets me get the paladin close enough to smite things."
Speaking as a high-level wizard player, this is so very true. (Might change when I learn disintegrate.) I can mow down mooks like nobody's business, but against a single big target, I'm at my most lethal when playing battlefield taxi service.

Love your maps. So old school.

The best thing about EnWorld has always been people sharing content and challenging you as a DM to up your game.

ENWorld constantly gives me new ideas and inspirations. I really enjoy reading about other people's games, and seeing how they do things differently from my own table. It's really enriched my game.

As for the maps, I'm pleased to be of service. The map isn't finished, but it looks like the PCs are finished with the dungeon. I may still doodle it to completion, but it's on the back burner now.

I still recall an Archivist in a large 3.5 game whose main battle tactic was to play decoy ("Woo-hoo! Monsters!") while readying a Transposition spell with one of the fighters against a charge. Many would launch themselves at the tiny librarian only to end up smack dab into a wall of steel and axe...

It kind of makes me want to play a 5e Conjurer just to start transposing again! :D
