Now the creators of the game have stated that they aren't releasing any rules regarding the conversion, because it doesn't work that way and you'll have to just start over....

Except that's not what they've said. They said that, if someone wants to continue using their current characters, they'd be better off reimagining their characters under the new rules, like lots of them are doing in the playtests.

The OotS will be just fine, although V may suddenly change races, which will be fun. I bet Elan stays a bard, but simply is unable to do anything bardy for months.
