D&D 5E A lich just did something to me and I am not sure what happened. Can someone please explain to me?

So we were in a Netherese City and basically a lich froze me, chipped my neck with a dagger and made a drop of my blood float, drained life from me and I fell unconscious. I somehow have survived. What the hell happened?

Mechanically? No idea.

Narratively? Your DM just made your character's life significantly more interesting.

The question now becomes, what do you intend to do?

I do not know. I am blind at the moment, my party members think I am dead and I fell underground through unsolid rock and am feeling "Something squishy & crunchy" underneath me.

Sounds like there is a plan the DM has for your player that is going to be reveled, but nobody knows about it. That's the problem. You should feel free to ask the DM about your PC and if he is all White Walker and you now have no control, or if there is some sort of save you can make to break an enchantment or something. Maybe you can play a temp PC until the party finds your guy and can save the day. Unless the DM has a reason, he should be able to tell you how long to expect to be there since it does suck to show up and not be able to play.

Is this happening literally right now? Like, you’re in the middle of the game, posting here to figure out what happened since your character is unconscious and can’t act?

Are you sure you survived?

That sounds like the old Necromancy classic first, I kill you....

One possibility you'll at least have to consider is that your character is not, in fact, alive, and this is some form of afterlife stuff.

Your DM seems to be doing something custom and specific to the campaign.
That said, I vote that the lich is planning to take over your body with a ritual.

"Can someone please explain"?

Yes, there is almost certainly exactly one person in the world who can explain it, and that is the Dungeon Master of your campaign. The question is when and under what circumstances they will explain it.

Congrats on being selected to be the lich's new living phylactery!

Outstanding job. This means you get to stay alive. It also means they'll probably charm, petrify, time stop you...

Ok so it turns out it was just pitch black (still is) and I spent hours in darkness in what seems to be an underground catacombs which in every direction leads back to the same wall. There is gooey undead things crawling on the ground (I am a paladin and sensed undead all around me) and if I was still for too long stuff would begin crawling up my legs. I prayed for any god to save me and a small light appeared. I am a bit worried I have signed myself up for a pact with a devil or something so I am extremely nervous.

If a "pact with the devil" is not voluntary then it is null.

It would be horrible if the lich had cursed you to be a "sleeping agent" but something like this should be detected with a "read magic". What if to enter in a zone of "dead magic" to null the possible effect? What if your PC drinks holy water?
