A Magical Society: Beast Builder

To cast aside all modesty, Silk Road is going to kick butt. I first got the spark of an idea a month or two after Ecology and Culture came out, but we were wiped out after convention season, and we wanted to get Monster Geographica and 1 on 1 rolling.

Oh, I had the spark for it for years, there was a little blip on it on the discovery channel about five years ago and how a whole culture was built on it. So, thank you and looking forward to it. :D

Write faster, varmint!

Dude. This is a first for our publishing company. We have been complemented in l33t. Truely, we're forming a core audience and have only great success ahead of us! :D

Thanks for the kind words all. I wish I could work faster, but brain only so-big.

The problem is you need to outsource your brain.

Are there any parts of India that are going to get a real working over? It's quite a bit more exotic than European styles so I imagine that mythology, culture, and weaponry all need a good round going unlike European bits where the PHB filled you in on a lot of the armor and weapons for example.

Right now I don't know. As you note the European bits can be handwaved in MMS:WE as they're close enough to the default for D&D while the Indian bits would need more explanation. I'm not sure conceptually how to make it work yet and what's required to not only give a reader a good understanding of how things worked as well as what people thought and what things looked like in the magical medieval style, but to give them tools to make their own quasi-Indian society.

Its something I don't have the answer too yet. Hopefully through the reading I'll determine what stance to take with the work.

Almost sounds like it'd have to be two books.

You might want to get a copy of Mind Shadows and see if there are any bits in that that could be used as 'background' material as it's got a kinda fantasy India feel to it for some parts and uses a bit of outsider rules in terms of psionics and some other goods.

A large part of what i liked so much about the first two Magical Society books was how little of their content was tied to D20 System mechanics. They're roughly equally useful for any appropriate setting, no matter what system you're using. How does Beast Builder stack up in this regard?
