A monster. A class. A template.

An advanced half-fiend monkey barbarian.

A scout for a Type V demoness (uh...er...Marilith demon I think :) ) that fell into a planar gate and wound up in some icy wastes on the Prime Material Plane (or whatever they call it now). Sets traps and eats people. Working on a crude stone statue of his patron that he hopes to be a focus of a ritual that will draw the attention of the demoness and get him transported back to the Abyss.

I once ran a campaign that made some pretty wonky uses of the half-dragon templtate when 3e came out. The winners, in terms of freaking out the players:

Half-dragon beholder (death-kiss beholder) barbarian.
Half-dragon carrion crawler rogue/assassins.
half-dragon illithid sorcerer

Okay, first I'll start with a BBEG that's been brewing in the back of my mind for awhile, then I'll attempt your under CR 10 one, ;)

Half-Fiend Solar Knight

A Solar, the mightiest of the angels, with a fiendish background makes for an angsty bad guy for sure. A very interesting, faceted enemy, which I hope to employ in my campaign, hehe. Possibly a Lucifer mentality, thinking that his spoiled heritage made him more powerful than the others, but ended up with his rejection from Celestia. Just a thought...

Now, for one that under CR 10...

A Kyton Deathknight Fighter. (that took ENTIRELY too long, by the way). CR 10

And then another that came to mind, could be quite deadly, actually:

A Titanic DarkMantle. Class levels optional, but a Gargantuan Darkmantle descending on the party is sort of unsettling. Especially a group of them. ...eerie...

Instead of a single creature I took some little-used ones and made them into an undead team for a crazy sewer living cleric:

Ghouled Rust Monster
Mummified Otyugh
Zombie Rats

If I remember correctl I advanced the Rust Monster a little and it was a devestating creature. It had all the fighters/clerics naked by round 3.
