Those who die in the swamp that are not devoured become zombies. Due to the scarcity of food in the Lost Swamp, the dinosaurs and crocodiles have taken to feeding on the larger zombies. The few smaller ones are relatively safe, however. At any one time, there are 3d4+16 Medium-size zombies, due to predation and new deaths. The pack of deinonychus requires one Medium-size zombie every other week, as does Ralrosr. The Lost Swamp has challenges for many character levels. Most creatures spend most of their time slumbering. They awaken when a foe of great enough power to challenge them enters the swamp. This allows low-level characters to explore without fear of Mylgos and the dinosaurs. 1st-level characters will only encounter Small zombies, and greater levels will awaken greater foes.

Average level Foes encountered
1st Small zombies
2nd Zombies (both)
3rd Crocodiles, zombies (both)
4th-5th Crocodiles, deinonychus, zombies (both)
6th-9th Mylgos, crocodiles, deinonychus, zombies (both)
10th or greater Mylgos, Ralrosr, crocodiles, deinonychus, zombies (both)
